AbstractThis work examines the development and characterization of tripropylene glycol di-acrylate/liquid crystal E7 (TPGDA/LC E7) PDLCs composite materials (polymer-dispersed-liquid-crystals). These systems were produced by UV irradiation photopolymerization (PIPS) of a mixture of the monomer tripropylene glycol di-acrylate (TPGDA) and the liquid crystal E7 (LC E7, a mixture of three cyano-biphenyl and one cyano-terphenyl LCs), in the presence of 2?wt% (of the acrylate/E7 mixture) of a photoinitiator. Electro-optical, thermal and optical characterization was used to understand the effect of the LC concentration on the electro-optical and thermo-physical properties of these materials. Polarizing optical microscopy (POM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies were performed to observe the system morphology and to determine the transition temperatures of these materials, both as a function of their composition. The findings showed a slight variation of the nematic-isotropic transition temperature, TNI, of the LC E7 and of the glass transition temperature, Tg, of the TPGDA polymeric matrix as a function of the mass percentage of the LC E7. A very good electro-optical response for the composition 30/70?wt % TPGDA/LC E7 was obtained. 相似文献

The sliding behavior of liquid droplets on inclined Langmuir-Blodgett surfaces was investigated. The critical sliding angle defined as the tilt angle of the surface at which the drop slides down as well as the advancing and receding contact angles was measured for five different liquids on five surfaces. In addition, the contact line geometry was analyzed at critical sliding angle. The experimental relationship between the surface tension forces resulting from contact angle hysteresis and the weight of the drop was compared to theoretical predictions. Even though the shape of the drop bases was found as skewed ellipses, a model assuming parallel-sided elongated drops is shown to describe reasonably the experimental values. This result probably indicates the main influence of the capillary forces at the rear and front edges of the drop with respect to that exerted on the lateral sides. 相似文献

The temporal evolution of diffusion-controlled analyte accumulation in solid-phase microextraction (SPME) is critically discussed in terms of the various aspects of steady-state diffusion in the two phases under conditions of fast exchange of the analyte at the solid phase film/water interface. For partition coefficients (Ksw) much larger than unity and a sufficiently thin polymer film, the concentration gradient of the analyte in the polymer phase is largely insignificant. The growth of the accumulated amount of analyte is then adequately described by the well-known exponential expression for steady-state diffusion under non-depletive conditions, provided the initial transient stage is properly taken into account. In case of fiber-type solid phases, the cylindrical nature of the diffusion complicates the nature of the transient stage as well as the magnitude of the steady-state flux. 相似文献

In ultra-relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions (HIC), the properties of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) can be explored, in particular,
via measurements of neutral pions. The π
0 is an important probe for both proton and heavy ion physics. In the former case, π
0 production provides an important mean of testing pQCD as well as useful data to constrain current and future theoretical
models. In the latter case, π
0 measurements will serve as a baseline for exploring the nature of the HIC hard scattering. In the ALICE experiment, π
0 mesons are identified as they decay into two photons (π
0→γ
γ) using the high-resolution photon spectrometer (PHOS). PHOS will measure π
0 transverse momentum over a wide range, from hundreds of MeV/c to several tens of GeV/c. An estimation of π
0 production cross-section in proton–proton collisions is calculated in a next-to-leading order (NLO) approximation and first
presented. The π
0 geometrical acceptance and the identification efficiency along with the analysis on the invariant mass are the two important
correction factors for obtaining a realistic π
0 spectrum discussed in this paper. 相似文献
