Synthesis and molecular structure of [Al(CH3)2]2[C10H22N4] [Al(CH3)3]2: Condensation product of trimethylaluminum and a multidentate open-chain amine

The crystalline condensation product [Al(CH₃)₂]₂[C₁₀H₂₂N₄][Al(CH₃)₃]₂ is prepared from reaction of the multidentate open-chain amine 1,4-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine with trimethylaluminum in methylene chloride. The compound crystallized in the monoclinic space groupC2/c with unit cell parametersa=25.166(12),b=7.268(4),c=17.316(4) Å,=115.3(4)°, andD _c =1.06 g cm^–3 forZ=4. Least-squares refinement based on 1054 observed reflections with intensitiesI 3(I) in the range 2<2<45° led to a finalR factor of 0.053 (R _w =0.064). The title compound resides on a crystallographic center of symmetry with independent Al-N distances of 1.889(5), 2.058(5), and 2.030(5) Å.

Hybrid catalysts: the synthesis, structure and ethene polymerisation activity of (salicylaldiminato)(pyrrolylaldiminato) titanium complexes

The mono(salicylaldiminato) complexes Ti{3-tBu-2-(O)C6H3CH=N(R)}Cl3(THF)(where R = C6H5, C6F5) react with the metallated pyrrolylaldiminato ligand, K[2-(C6H5NCH)C4H3N], to afford the first examples of hybrid salicylaldiminato-ligated octahedral titanium complexes; the pre-catalysts give from very high to extremely high ethene polymerisation productivities when activated with MAO.     

Total synthesis of the supposed structure of (-)-sclerophytin A and an improved route to (-)-7-deacetoxyalcyonin acetate

[reaction: see text]Stereoselective acid-catalyzed rearrangement of 15-->16 is the central step in total syntheses of (-)-7-deacetoxyalcyonin acetate (1) and the compound with the alleged structure of sclerophytin A (2). Since tetracyclic diether 2 is not identical to sclerophytin A, the structure of this antineoplastic marine diterpene must be revised. The conversion of 15-->16 demonstrates for the first time that tetrahydrofurans containing (Z)-1-methylalkenyl side chains can be prepared by Prins-pinacol rearrangements.     

Synthesis and Reaction Chemistry of the Disodium Alkoxide of 2,6-Bis(trifluoromethyl)-2,6-dihydroxy-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluorooxane

The disodium alkoxide of 2,6-bis(trifluoromethyl)-2,6-dihydroxy-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluorooxane, C(7)F(12)O(3)Na(2), 1, was prepared by reaction of the corresponding diol with MeONa in MeOH. This cyclic alkoxide readily mimics the reaction chemistry of the lithium and sodium alkoxides of perfluoropinacol. The reaction of the alkoxide 1 with covalent dichlorides and metallocene dichlorides yields a series of novel bicyclic ring systems. The crystal structure of the trioxasilane, 3, formed from (CH(3))(2)SiCl(2) was determined to provide structural information about these ring systems. Crystal data: C(9)H(6)O(3)F(12)Si, fw = 418.21 u, orthorhombic space group, Pnma (No. 62), a = 15.822(3) ?, b = 12.163(3) ?, c = 7.373(2) ?, V = 1418.9(4) ?(3), and D(calc) = 1.96 g cm(-)(3) for Z = 4 (molecule possesses mirror symmetry). Least-squares refinement on 1075 observed reflections (I > 3sigma(I)) converged with R = 0.0357 and R(w) = 0.0478.
