Numerous potentially functional but non-genic conserved sequences on human chromosome 21

The use of comparative genomics to infer genome function relies on the understanding of how different components of the genome change over evolutionary time. The aim of such comparative analysis is to identify conserved, functionally transcribed sequences such as protein-coding genes and non-coding RNA genes, and other functional sequences such as regulatory regions, as well as other genomic features. Here, we have compared the entire human chromosome 21 with syntenic regions of the mouse genome, and have identified a large number of conserved blocks of unknown function. Although previous studies have made similar observations, it is unknown whether these conserved sequences are genes or not. Here we present an extensive experimental and computational analysis of human chromosome 21 in an effort to assign function to sequences conserved between human chromosome 21 (ref. 8) and the syntenic mouse regions. Our data support the presence of a large number of potentially functional non-genic sequences, probably regulatory and structural. The integration of the properties of the conserved components of human chromosome 21 to the rapidly accumulating functional data for this chromosome will improve considerably our understanding of the role of sequence conservation in mammalian genomes.

Asymptotics for the Moments of the Time to Ruin for the Compound Poisson Model Perturbed by Diffusion

We obtain the asymptotic behaviour of the k-th moment of the time to ruin in the classical risk model perturbed by diffusion for the case where the claim size distribution has a heavy tail.     

ON LACUNARY STATISTICAL CONVERGENCE OF ORDER α

In this article, we introduce the concept of lacunary statistical convergence of order α of real number sequences and give some inclusion relations between the sets of lacunary statistical convergence of order α and strong Nαθ(p)-summability. Furthermore, some relations between the spaces Nαθ(p) and Sαθare examined.     

Lundberg-type Bounds and Asymptotics for the Moments of the Time to Ruin

We obtain analogues of Lundberg’s inequality and the Cramér—Lundberg asymptotic relationship for the k-th moment of the time to ruin in the classical risk model. We also derive the asymptotic behaviour of the mean time to ruin when the claim size distribution has a heavy or intermediate tail.     

上海市百岁老人的谱系及其分析

本文调查了上海市百岁老人的性别、职业和谱系,并绘制了57个完整的寿命谱系图,其中男性10名(占总数的17.5%),女性47名(占82.5%).男性中脑力劳动者4名(占男性总数的40%),体力劳动者6名(占60%);女性中脑力劳动者1人(占女性总数的2.1%),体力劳动者3人(占6.4%),操持家务者43人(占91.5%).有长寿家族史者40人(占寿命家族史清楚者的70.2%),无长寿家族史者17人(占29.8%).百岁老人配偶寿长≥70岁者,其已故子女的平均寿命高于配偶<70岁的.作者认为长寿是遗传的,并着重从遗传和环境两方面分析了女寿星数明显多于男寿星数的原因.

SOME GEOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF A NEW DIFFERENCE SEQUENCE SPACE INVOLVING LACUNARY SEQUENCES

In this paper, we define a new generalized difference sequence space involving lacunary sequence. Then, we examine k-NUC property and property （β） for this space and also show that it is not rotund where p = （pr） is a bounded sequence of positive real numbers with pr ≥ 1 for all r ∈ N.
