The high field-high pressure magnetic properties of MnSi

Experiments at high pressures and magnetic fields indicate that although MnSi is an unsaturated ferromagnet it cannot be characterized as a simple weak itinerant one.

Solid immiscibility and liquid structure in the Ga2(SexTe1−x)3 alloy system

Differential thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction studies of the system Ga₂(Se_xTe_1?x)₃ are reported and correlated with measurements of the electrical conductivity in the liquid state. The experiments reveal that Ga₂Te₃ and Ga₂Se₃ do not form a continuous series of pseudo-binary solid solutions but exhibit solid state immiscibility in the range 0.50 ? x ? 0.90. The composition dependence of the conductivity of the liquid alloys exhibits structure in the range of the solid state phase separation. Such “memory” in the liquid of a solid phase separation has not been reported previously and suggests the importance of concentration fluctuations in determining the electronic properties of the liquid alloys.     

Nonlinear compression of optical solitons

In this paper, we consider nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations, both in the anomalous and normal dispersive regimes, which govern the propagation of a single field in a fiber medium with phase modulation and fibre gain (or loss). The integrability conditions are arrived from linear eigen value problem. The variable transformations which connect the integrable form of modified NLS equations are presented. We succeed in Hirota bilinearzing the equations and on solving, exact bright and dark soliton solutions are obtained. From the results, we show that the soliton is alive, i.e. pulse area can be conserved by the inclusion of gain (or loss) and phase modulation effects.     

Symplectic supercuspidal representations and related problems

In this paper, we summarize the basic structures and properties of irreducible symplectic supercuspidal representations of GLn(F) over a p-adic local field F with characteristic zero, and explore possible topics for further investigation.     

Linear and nonlinear optical properties of ternary AIIBIVC2Vchalcopyrite semiconductors

The refractive indices of ZnSiAs2, CdGeP2, and CdGeAs2have been determined over a wide range of wavelengths and the optical nonlinear coefficient for second-harmonic generation from the 10.6-μ CO2laser have been measured. The absorption coefficient versus wavelength is given for the above materials as well as for ZnGeP2, a previously discussed material. Three-frequency phase-matched mixing is described for each material.
