The nonlinear evolution of thin liquid films dewetting near soft elastomeric layers is examined in this work. Evolution equations are derived by applying the lubrication approximation and assuming that van der Waals forces in the liquid cause the dewetting and that the solid can be described as a linear viscoelastic material. Two cases are examined: (i) a liquid layer resting on an elastomer bounded from below by a rigid substrate, and (ii) an elastomer overlying a thin liquid film bounded from below by a rigid substrate. Linear stability analysis is carried out to obtain asymptotic relations which are then compared against solutions of the full characteristic equations. In the liquid-on-solid case, numerical solutions of the evolution equations show that van der Waals forces cause thinning of the liquid film and thickening of the elastomeric solid beneath film depressions. Inclusion of a short-range repulsive force suggests that regular patterns may form in which ridges of fluid rest on depressions in the solid. In the solid-on-liquid case, the van der Waals forces cause the solid layer to break up before the liquid film can dewet. The results presented here support the idea that the dewetting of thin liquid films might be exploited to create topographically patterned surfaces on soft polymeric solids. 相似文献

We demonstrate a means of creating a digital image by using a two-axis tilt micromirror to scan a scene. For each different orientation we extract a single gray scale value from the mirror and combine them to form a single composite image. This allows one to choose the distribution of the samples, and so in principle a variable resolution image could be created. We demonstrate this ability to control resolution and projection by constructing a voltage table that compensates for the nonlinear response of the mirrors to the applied voltage. 相似文献

Due to the increasing demands on efficiency, performance and flexibility reconfigurable computational architectures are very
promising candidates in embedded systems design. Recently coarse-grained reconfigurable array architectures (CGRAs), such
as the ADRES CGRA and its corresponding DRESC compiler are gaining more popularity due to several technological breakthroughs
in this area. We investigate the mapping of two image processing algorithms, Wavelet encoding and decoding, and TIFF compression
on this novel type of array architectures in a systematic way. The results of our experiments show that CGRAs based on ADRES
and its DRESC compiler technology deliver improved performance levels for these two benchmark applications when compared to
results obtained on a state-of-the-art commercial DSP platform, the c64x DSP from Texas Instruments. ADRES/DRESC can beat
its performance by at least 50% in cycle count and the power consumption even drops to 10% of the published numbers of the
c64x DSP. 相似文献

A modeling pathway and software tool for linking entangled linear polymer molecular properties to linear viscoelasticity and melt index (MI) values is presented. A reptation model links molecular properties to the flow curve, and then, an ANSYS Polyflow model calculates MI values based on the flow curve predicted. The method is thoroughly tested and validated for uni‐ and bimodal, low‐ and high‐density polyethylene grades. An overall accuracy level in the range of 90% on average is exhibited, considering both model prediction steps: (i) molecular weight distribution to flow curve and (ii) flow curve to MI.

The slow start power controlled MAC protocol for mobile ad hoc networks and its performance analysis
We propose and evaluate the performance of a new MAC-layer protocol for mobile ad hoc networks, called the Slow Start Power Controlled (abbreviated SSPC) protocol. SSPC improves on IEEE 802.11 by using power control for the RTS/CTS and DATA frame transmissions, so as to reduce energy consumption and increase network throughput and lifetime. In our scheme the transmission power used for the RTS frames is not constant, but follows a slow start principle. The CTS frames, which are sent at maximum transmission power, prevent the neighbouring nodes from transmitting their DATA frames at power levels higher than a computed threshold, while allowing them to transmit at power levels less than that threshold. Reduced energy consumption is achieved by adjusting the node transmission power to the minimum required value for reliable reception at the receiving node, while increase in network throughput is achieved by allowing more transmissions to take place simultaneously. The slow start principle used for calculating the appropriate DATA frames transmission power and the possibility of more simultaneous collision-free transmissions differentiate the SSPC protocol from the other MAC solutions proposed for IEEE 802.11. Simulation results indicate that the SSPC protocol achieves a significant reduction in power consumption, average packet delay and frequency of RTS frame collisions, and a significant increase in network throughput and received-to-sent packets ratio compared to IEEE 802.11 protocol. 相似文献

ABSTRACTWe report extensive molecular dynamics simulation results of pure methane and carbon dioxide hydrates at pressure and temperature conditions that are of interest to various practical applications. We focus on the calculation of the lattice constants of the two pure hydrates and their dependence on pressure and temperature. The calculated lattice constants are correlated using second order polynomials which are functions of either temperature or pressure. Finally, the obtained correlations are used in order to calculate two derivative properties, namely the isothermal compressibility and the isobaric thermal expansion coefficient. The current simulation results are also compared against reported experimental measurements and other simulation studies and good agreement is found for the case of isothermal compressibility. On the other hand, for the case of isobaric thermal expansion coefficient good agreement is found only with other simulation studies, while the simulation studies are in disagreement with experiments, particularly at low temperatures. 相似文献

Whereas there is increasing evidence for ion‐induced protein destabilization through direct ion–protein interactions, the strength of the binding of anions to proteins relative to cation–protein binding has remained elusive. In this work, the rotational mobility of a model amide in aqueous solution was used as a reporter for the interactions of different anions with the amide group. Protein‐stabilizing salts such as KCl and KNO3 do not affect the rotational mobility of the amide. Conversely, protein denaturants such as KSCN and KI markedly reduce the orientational freedom of the amide group. Thus these results provide evidence for a direct denaturation mechanism through ion–protein interactions. Comparing the present findings with results for cations shows that in contrast to common belief, anion–amide binding is weaker than cation–amide binding. 相似文献

One of the major challenges that mobile operators (MOs) are faced with nowadays is the transition to 4th Generation (4G) mobile communication technologies. The main reason for this lies on the reluctance of MOs to invest in a new technology without being sure about its success. The current paper investigates the decision-making procedures of a MO that wishes to migrate from its current technology type to 4G. Traditionally, the decision of deploying a new technology has been based on the analysis of similar implementations in other countries. However, such approaches can be inefficient and time consuming, as there are discrepancies concerning the technological progress among different countries. To this end, the authors employ evolutionary game theory to model the interactions of the MO’s decisions and the subscribers’ needs, and propose a practical and efficient qualitative model that identifies the circumstances under which the transition towards 4G networking can be facilitated. Specifically, the mathematical foundation of the decision making process is provided and the key role of the charging price and the quality of experience by the subscribers for using 4G connectivity is proven. With the process of 4G deployment still ongoing, this paper aims to present an analysis that can be used supplementary to the decision process of a MO that aims to evolve his network. 相似文献
