Large offset far infrared laser lines generation from the C-O stretching Q-branch of 13CD3OD

2 laser of wide tunability to pump ¹³CD₃OD we could observe 10 new far infrared laser lines ranging from 109 μm to 472 μm. The lines were generated by pumping infrared absorbing transitions of large offset appertaining to the C-O stretching Q-branch. All lines were characterised in wavelength, polarisation, optimum pressure of operation and precise offset measurements. Received: 17 September 1996/Revised version: 18 November 1996     

Electric field effects on roto-vibrational transitions of13CD3OH1

We used a Stark-Optoacoustic cell and hybrid waveguide resonators to perform an Infrared and Far Infrared Stark Spectroscopy study on some transitions of¹³CD₃OH. Different behaviours of the transitions in the presence of a d.c. electric field were observed. The Stark splittings of six FIR laser lines ranging from 34 to 136 MHz/kVcm^?1 were determined. The analysis of the behaviour of the IR and FIR transitions in the presence of the external electric fields gives important and exclusive information on the levels involved in the transitions.     

New fir laser lines and frequency measurements from optically pumped13CD3OH3

We report the discovery of 57 new fir laser lines from¹³CD₃OH molecule optically pumped by a waveguide CO₂ laser of 300 MHz tunability. For all lines, precise frequency offset measurements between the CO₂ line center and the center of the absorbing¹³CD₃OH line were performed using the transferred Lamb-Dip technique. We have also measured directly the frequency of seven FIR laser lines by heterodyning with already known laser lines. We present a complete list of all known laser lines (134) and frequency measurements (24) for this molecule.Work supported by CNPq, FAPESP, FAEP-Brasil, and CNR-Italia

Energy harvesting with pairs of variable capacitors without control circuits

This work describes several electronic electrostatic generators that can be built using two pairs of complementary variable capacitors, in a way that dispenses control circuits for their operation. In all cases, a basic unstable generator based on an electrostatic charge multiplier is used to bias variable capacitors, and the current generated by these capacitors is then rectified and sent to the load. Experimental versions of the proposed generators were built using variable capacitors made with 3D-printing techniques, moved in a back-and-forth way by a small motor. As these generators operate at high impedance level, always with small currents, they are insensitive to the resistivity of the conductive plastic used to make the variable capacitors. Several new structures are presented, and their properties are evaluated theoretically and experimentally.     

Alternative to the hyperfine-change-collision interpretation for the behavior of magneto-optical-trap losses at low light intensity

Usually, the large trap loss rates observed in MOTs at the low light intensity regime have been associated with hyperfine change collisions (HCC). We propose an alternative mechanism to explain the sudden raise up of trap loss rates at low intensity without relying on HCC. Using the Gallagher-Pritchard model [Phys. Rev. Lett. 63, 957 (1989)] together with an intensity dependent escape velocity, we were able to reproduce qualitatively well some existing experimental results, including recent observations by Nesnidal et al. [Phys. Rev. A 62, 030701(R) (2000)]. This result reopens the discussion in order to better understand the physical mechanisms and their actual contribution to the trap losses.     

Homogeneous Linewidth and Saturation Parameter of Infrared Laser Transitions

We investigated the behavior of infrared (IR) absorption laser transitions of methanol isotopes in the presence of an uniform electric field, in order to determine Doppler-free spectroscopic data such as homogeneous linewidth and saturation parameter. For this we combine photoacoustic detection with the high resolution provided by the Nonlinear Hanle Effect (NLHE) on molecular transitions.     

Boundary element formulation for elastoplastic analysis of axisymmetric bodies

The complete formulation of B.E.M. applied to the analysis of axisymmetric bodies acting in the plastic range is presented in this paper. The concept of derivative of a singular integral given by Mikhlin has been used in order to calculate the stresses in internal points.Also a semianalytical approach is proposed to compute the matrix coefficients, presenting the way in which it can be done and the results obtained.
