Wavelength conversion of optical signals over 20 nm is demonstrated using highly nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a semiconductor traveling-wave optical amplifier. This technique has the potential for extremely-high-speed operation and allows continuous tuning of both input and output wavelengths over the amplifier gain bandwidth. It is demonstrated that, even for such a large wavelength conversion range, it is possible to obtain conversion efficiencies in excess of -10 dB and high extinction ratios. The feasibility of the technique is demonstrated by system measurements at 622 Mb/s, showing a 1.1-dB power penalty at 10-9 bit error rate (BER)  相似文献

Structural studies of the high molecular mass (HMM) glutenin subunits 1Bx7 (from cvs Hereward and Galatea) and 1Bx20 (from cv. Bidi17) of bread wheat were conducted using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS) and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (RP-HPLC/ESI-MS). For all three proteins, MALDI-TOFMS analysis showed that the isolated fractions contained a second component with a mass about 650 Da lower than the major component. The testing and correction of the gene-derived amino acid sequences of the three proteins were performed by direct MALDI-TOFMS analysis of their tryptic peptide mixture. Analysis of the digest was performed by recording several MALDI mass spectra of the mixture at low, medium and high mass ranges, optimizing the matrix and the acquisition parameters for each mass range. Complementary data were obtained by RP-HPLC/ESI-MS analysis of the tryptic digest. This resulted in coverage of about 98% of the sequences. In contrast to the gene-derived data, the results obtained demonstrate the insertion of the sequence QPGQGQ between Trp716 and Gln717 of subunit 1Bx7 (cv. Galatea) and a possible single amino acid substitution within the T20 peptide of subunit 1Bx20. Moreover, the mass spectrometric data demonstrated that the lower mass components present in all the fractions correspond to the major components but lack about six amino acid residues, which are probably lost from the protein C-terminus. Finally, the results obtained provide evidence for the lack of glycosylation or other post-translational modifications of these subunits.  相似文献

Complementary data were obtained by RP-HPLC/ESI-MS analysis of the tryptic digest. This resulted in the coverage of the whole protein sequences except for two short fragments (T1 and T8), which are identical in the two homologous subunits, and for an additional dipeptide (T14) in subunit 1Dy12, which were not detected. It also demonstrated that, in contrast to the gene-derived data, the sequence of subunit 1Dy12 does not include the dipeptide Gly-Gln between residues Gln(454) and Pro(455), and that the lower mass components present in both fractions correspond to the same sequences lacking short peptides that are probably lost from the protein N- or C-termini. Finally, the results obtained provide evidence for the lack of a substantial level of glycosylation or other post-translational modifications of the two subunits, and demonstrate that mass spectrometric mapping is the most useful method presently available for the direct verification of the gene-derived sequences of HMW glutenin subunits and similar proteins.  相似文献

We describe recent developments in time-resolved optical measurements of electron-phonon interactions in quantum wells which reveal the fundamental two-dimensional properties of the process. Picosecond photoluminescence experiments show enhanced energy relaxation in narrow quantum wells. Time-resolved Raman measurements of inter- and intra-subband relaxation of electrons reveal the participation of confined optical phonons; in narrow quantum wells there is strong coupling to interface phonons.  相似文献

The structures of a small closed system of grain boundaries and the interactions of vacancies with these boundaries has been investigated using computer simulation techniques based on empirical interatomic potentials. The boundaries chosen are the {;111}; and {;112}; twins in both body centred cubic and face centred cubic metals, the potentials used being matched to the physical properties of iron and copper. Two stable structures arise for the {;112};bcc twin so that effectively five boundaries have been studied. The structures and energies of these are extremely varied, the {;112};fcc twin in particular being very broad. This influences the binding of vacancies to the boundaries and the migration of vacancies along the boundaries. Near the {;111};bcc twin a split-vacancy consisting of a divacancy and an interstitial is the most stable configuration. This has a very high binding energy and an exceptionally high migration energy. Near the other boundaries the vacancy migration energies are less than in the bulk. The implications of the results are discussed.  相似文献

The authors demonstrate for the first time the transmission of a 4×10 Gbit/s OTDM data sequence over two unrepeatered links of 100 km of nondispersion shifted fibre. In a very short period of time, the Internet has risen from being viewed as a peculiarity of the defence and academic community of the late sixties to become a significant component of many of our working and home lives. The possible impact of this technology has the futurists talking of the collapse of national borders, the bypass of tax systems and traditional commerce and the emancipation of the individual from the clutches of government, corporations and the boundaries of culture, gender and physical constraints. Most users' experience of the Internet is through browser software and applications such as e-mail, World Wide Web, Newsgroups and media plug-ins. Beneath this glossy, graphical, multimedia world exists the architectural and protocol components which have enabled the Internet evolution to reach into so many parts of everday life in such a short time. The aim of this paper is to outline some of these components, their characteristics and limitations, and their ongoing development to address those limitations and add new capabilities. Even though an overview of Internet protocols is included in this paper, basic knowledge of Internet technology is assumed.  相似文献
