In 1961, Erdős, Ginzburg and Ziv proved a remarkable theorem stating that each set of 2n−1 integers contains a subset of size n, the sum of whose elements is divisible by n. We will prove a similar result for pairs of integers, i.e. planar lattice-points, usually referred to as Kemnitz’ conjecture. Dedicated to Richard Askey on the occasion of his 70th birthday. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification Primary—11B50.  相似文献

Coordination of dinitrogen to Sellmann-type iron (II) complexes in a sulfur-dominated coordination sphere, which emulates the environment of iron centers in the FeMo-cofactor of nitrogenase, is analyzed with respect to spin states, spin barriers, and the effect of trans-ligands. Such detailed investigations became only recently feasible when the reliability of density functional methods, which are the only quantum chemical methods capable of describing large transition metal complexes, could significantly be improved for the calculation of energies for states of different spin. It is found that the actual binding energy of dinitrogen is of sufficient magnitude for a reasonably strong fixation of N2 by Sellmann-type coordination compounds. However, potential fixation is determined by additional factors which reduce the binding energy. One factor is the change in spin state of the N2-free metal fragment, which lowers the total energy and quenches the thermodynamic stabilization effect of the binding energy. In addition, the metal fragment rearranges and gains even more stabilization energy for the un-coordinated state. Apart from these thermodynamical effects, the existence of spin barriers, which must be overcome upon binding of dinitrogen, leads to kinetical effects, which cannot be neglected.  相似文献

We present an extensive investigation of the dependence of the scattering intensity difference of right and left circularly polarized light observed in vibrational Raman optical activity (VROA) on the choice of basis set and exchange-correlation functional. These dependencies are investigated for five molecules for which accurate experimental data are available: (S)-methyloxirane, (R)-epichlorhydrin, (S)-glycidol, (M)-spiro[2,2]pentane-1,4-diene, and (M)-sigma-[4]-helicene. Calculations are presented using the SVWN exchange-correlation functional (LDA), the BLYP exchange-correlation functional, and the B3LYP hybrid functional, using six different basis sets: the cc-pVDZ, cc-pVTZ, aug-cc-pVDZ, aug-cc-pVTZ, Sadlej's polarized basis set, and a minimal VROA basis set recently proposed by Zuber and Hug. It is demonstrated that results from pure gradient-corrected and hybrid functionals are comparable and that the aug-cc-pVDZ and aug-cc-pVTZ basis sets yield similar results. Furthermore, the combination of the small basis set by Zuber and Hug with an accurate force field represents the best compromise between computational accuracy and computational efficiency.  相似文献

This work provides a survey of the definition of electron spin as a local property and its dependence on several parameters in actual calculations. We analyze one-determinant wave functions constructed from Hartree-Fock and, in particular, from Kohn-Sham orbitals within the collinear approach to electron spin. The scalar total spin operators S2 and Sz are partitioned by projection operators, as introduced by Clark and Davidson, in order to obtain local spin operators SASB and SzA, respectively. To complement the work of Davidson and co-workers, we analyze some features of local spins which have not yet been discussed in sufficient depth. The dependence of local spin on the choice of basis set, density functional, and projector is studied. We also discuss the results of Sz partitioning and show that SzA values depend less on these parameters than SASB values. Furthermore, we demonstrate that for small organic test molecules, a partitioning of Sz with preorthogonalized Lowdin projectors yields nearly the same results as one obtains using atoms-in-molecules projectors. In addition, the physical significance of nonzero SASB values for closed-shell molecules is investigated. It is shown that due to this problem, SASB values are useful for calculations of relative spin values, but not for absolute local spins, where SzA values appear to be better suited.  相似文献

The density-matrix renormalization group algorithm has emerged as a promising new method in ab initio quantum chemistry. However, many problems still need to be solved before this method can be applied routinely. At the start of such a calculation, the orbitals originating from a preceding quantum chemical calculation must be placed in a specific order on a one-dimensional lattice. This ordering affects the convergence of the density-matrix renormalization group iterations significantly. In this paper, we present two approaches to obtain optimized orderings of the orbitals. First, we use a genetic algorithm to optimize the ordering with respect to a low total electronic energy obtained at a predefined stage of the density-matrix renormalization group algorithm with a given number of total states kept. In addition to that, we derive orderings from the one- and two-electron integrals of our test system. This test molecule is the chromium dimer, which is known to possess a complicated electronic structure. For this molecule, we have carried out calculations for the various orbital orderings obtained. The convergence behavior of the density-matrix renormalization group iterations is discussed in detail.  相似文献

The mechanism of biological dinitrogen reduction is still unsolved, and the structure of the biological reaction center, the FeMo cofactor with its seven iron atoms bridged by sulfur atoms, is too complicated for direct attack by current sophisticated quantum chemical methods. Therefore, iron-sulfur complexes with biologically compatible ligands are utilized as models for studying particular features of the reduction process: coordination energetics, thermodynamic stability of intermediates, relative stability of isomers of N2H2, end-on versus side-on binding of N2, and the role of states of different multiplicity at a single iron center. From the thermodynamical point of view, the crucial steps are dinitrogen binding and reduction to diazene, while especially the reduction of hydrazine to ammonia is not affected by the transition metal complex, because the complex-free reduction reaction is equally favored. Moreover, the abstraction of coordinated ammonia can be easily achieved and the complex is recovered for the next reduction cycle. Our results are discussed in the light of studies on various model systems in order to identify common features and to arrive at conclusions which are of importance for the biological mechanism.  相似文献

We present the software package MO VI PAC for calculations of vibrational spectra, namely infrared, Raman, and Raman Optical Activity (ROA) spectra, in a massively parallelized fashion. MO VI PAC unites the latest versions of the programs SNF and AKIRA alongside with a range of helpful add‐ons to analyze and interpret the data obtained in the calculations. With its efficient parallelization and meta‐program design, MO VI PAC focuses in particular on the calculation of vibrational spectra of very large molecules containing on the order of a hundred atoms. For this purpose, it also offers different subsystem approaches such as Mode‐ and Intensity‐Tracking to selectively calculate specific features of the full spectrum. Furthermore, an approximation to the entire spectrum can be obtained using the Cartesian Tensor Transfer Method. We illustrate these capabilities using the example of a large π‐helix consisting of 20 (S)‐alanine residues. In particular, we investigate the ROA spectrum of this structure and compare it to the spectra of α‐ and 310‐helical analogs. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Replication is extremely important in mobile environments because nomadic users require local copies of important data. However, today's replication systems are not mobile-ready. Instead of improving the mobile user's environment, the replication system actually hinders mobility and complicates mobile operation. Designed for stationary environments, the replication services do not and cannot provide mobile users with the capabilities they require. Replication in mobile environments requires fundamentally different solutions than those previously proposed, because nomadicity presents a fundamentally new and different computing paradigm. Here we outline the requirements that mobility places on the replication service, and briefly describe ROAM, a system designed to meet those requirements.  相似文献

We describe a quantum‐chemical approach for the determination of modes with maximum Raman and Raman optical activity (ROA) intensity by maximizing the intensities with respect to the Raman and Raman optical activity intensity, respectively, which is shown to lead to eigenvalue equations. The intensity‐carrying modes are in general hypothetical modes and do not directly correspond to a certain normal mode in the spectrum. However, they provide information about those molecular distortions leading to intense bands in the spectrum. Modes with maximum Raman intensity are presented for propane‐1,3‐dione, propane‐1,3‐dionate, and Λ‐tris(propane‐1,3‐dionato)cobalt(III). Moreover, the mode with highest ROA intensity is examined for this chiral cobalt complex and also for the (chiral) amino acid L ‐tryptophan. The Raman and ROA high‐intensity modes are an optimal starting guess for intensity‐tracking calculations, in which selectively normal modes with high Raman or ROA intensity are converged. We present the first Raman and ROA intensity‐tracking calculations. These reveal a high potential for large molecules, for which the selective calculation of normal modes with high intensity is desirable in view of the large computational effort required for the calculation of Raman and ROA polarizability property tensors.  相似文献
