Long-term human space exploration will require contingencies for emergency medical procedures including some capability to perform surgery. The ability to perform minimally invasive surgery (MIS) would be an important capability. The use of small incisions reduces surgical risk, but also eliminates the ability of the surgeon to view and touch the surgical environment directly. Robotic surgery, or telerobotic surgery, may provide emergency surgical care in remote or harsh environments such as space flight, or extremely forward environments such as battlefields. However, because current surgical robots are large and require extensive support personnel, their implementation has remained limited in forward environments, and they would be difficult, or impossible, to use in space flight or on battlefields. This paper presents experimental analysis of miniature fixed-base and mobile in vivo robots to support MIS surgery in remote and harsh environments. The objective is to develop wireless imaging and task-assisting robots that can be placed inside the abdominal cavity during surgery. Such robots will provide surgical task assistance and enable an on-site or remote surgeon to view the surgical environment from multiple angles. Protein engineering and site-directed mutagenesis is becoming immensely important in both fundamental studies and commercial applications involving proteins and enzymes in biocatalysis. Protein engineering has become a powerful tool to help biochemists and molecular enzymologists elucidate structure-function relationships in enzymic active sites, to understand the intricacies of protein folding and denaturation, and to alter the selectivity of enzymatic catalysis. Commercial applications of engineered enzymes are being developed to increase protein stability, widen or narrow substrate specificity, and to develop novel approaches for use of enzymes in organic synthesis, drug design, and clinical applications. In addition to protein engineering, novel expression systems have been designed to prepare large quantities of genetically engineered proteins. Recent US patents and scientific literature on protein engineering, site-directed mutagenesis, and protein expression systems related to protein engineering are surveyed. The reactions of lanthanide nitrates, Ln(NO(3))(3), with bis(diphenylphosphino)methane dioxide, Ph(2)P(O)CH(2)P(O)Ph(2) (L), lead to complexes with three distinct classes of structure. At low ratios of Ln:L (<1:1.5) in acetonitrile the ionic complexes [Ln(NO(3))(2)L(2)](+)[Ln(NO(3))(4)L](-) (Ln = Pr, Eu) have been isolated. When carried out with a 1:2 or higher ratio in ethanol the reaction yields Ln(NO(3))(3)L(2) (Ln = La,Ce) and [Ln(NO(3))(2)L(2)H(2)O](+)[NO(3)](-) (Ln = Nd, Gd, Ho). Geometrical isomerism is found for the cations [Ln(NO(3))(2)L(2)H(2)O](+) and is attributed to the extent of hydrogen bonding to the coordinated water. Ligand redistribution occurs on heating in the solid state giving yellow solids in all cases. Crystallization of these materials from ethanol or acetonitrile gives [Ln(NO(3))L(3)](2+).2[NO(3)](-), which have been structurally characterized for Ln = Gd and Yb. The complexes Ln(NO3)3(OPCy3)3(EtOH)x (Cy = cyclohexyl, C6H11x = 0 for Ln = Eu, Er, x = 0.5 for Ln = La, Nd and x = 1 for Ln = Tm, Yb) have been prepared by reaction of lanthanide nitrates with Cy3PO in ethanol. The single crystal X-ray structures for Ln = La, Nd, Eu, Er, Tm and Yb are reported. The structures for Ln = La–Eu have two molecules in the unit cell in which the nitrates are all bound as bidentate ligands. The unit cell for Ln = Er contains two distinct molecules; one with three bidentate nitrates and one with two bidentate and one monodentate nitrate. The Tm and Yb complexes have one molecule in the unit cell with two bidentate and one monodentate nitrate ligands. The monodentate nitrates are hydrogen bonded to ethanol in the Tm and Yb structures but not in the Er complex. The infrared spectra of the three classes of complex do not readily permit identification of the monodentate nitrate groups. Electrospray mass spectrometry indicates that redistribution/ionisation reactions occur in solution. Ions formed by solvolysis reactions are attributed to gas phase processes associated with the electrospray technique. Tandem mass spectrometry for the La, Ho and Yb complexes shows that in the gas phase loss of Cy3PO is the sole fragmentation pathway for all but the Yb complex where the higher energy required for initial fragmentation leads to a more complex fragmentation pattern. 相似文献

By using specific subsequences of two different types of generalized Stern polynomials, we obtain several related classes of finite and infinite continued fractions involving a single term \(z^{t^j}\) in their partial numerators, where z is a complex variable and t is a positive integer. This approach is extended to other, sparser, subsequences of Stern polynomials, based on certain Lucas functions; this then leads to further infinite classes of continued fractions. 相似文献
