We investigate on the variation of loss and temperature dependence of a polymeric arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) depending on its substrate, by fabricating 16-channel polymeric AWGs with various substrate conditions. Insertion loss for a polymeric AWG on a silicon substrate is measured as low as 3.1 dB. The temperature-dependent wavelength shift for a polymeric AWG detached from the substrate is maintained within 0.1 nm from 20 to 80 °C. But we observe a degradation of insertion loss and a little instability in wavelength characteristics both for the detached polymeric AWG and for a polymeric AWG on a polymer substrate. We investigate on those optical properties of the polymeric AWGs based on measured thermal expansion properties of the polymers.  相似文献

We demonstrate frequency doubling at 1 GHz using a new silicon Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM). Modulation of the refractive index of silicon for an MZM action is achieved via the injection/depletion of electrons and holes in a p-i-n diode. The silicon MZM used in the experiment shows high phase-shift efficiency and a VpiLpi of 1.88times10-2Vldrcm which is nearly 350 times smaller than those of previously reported LiNbO3-based MZM. Also, a theoretical analysis of frequency doubling in the time domain shows good agreement with the experimental results.  相似文献

We have fabricated 9-channel silicon wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) ring filters using 193 nm deep-ultraviolet (DUV) lithography and investigated the spectral properties of the ring filters by comparing the transmission spectra with and without an upper cladding. The average channel-spacing of the 9-channel WDM ring filter with a polymeric upper cladding is measured about 1.86 nm with the standard deviation of the channel-spacing about 0.34 nm. The channel crosstalk is about −30 dB, and the minimal drop loss is about 2 dB.  相似文献

Polarization-dependent wavelength shift of a birefringent-polymeric arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) is found to be adjusted simply by controlling the thickness of the first upper cladding layer while forming the upper cladding by several sublayers. Polarization-dependent wavelength shift is reduced to 0.08 from 4.24 nm in a birefringent-polymeric 16 /spl times/ 16 channel AWG on a silicon substrate by this method.  相似文献
