For part I see, ibid., p. 134, 1998. The basic approach outlined in the previous article is applied to the difficult problem of computing the optical modes of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser. The formulation utilizes a finite difference equation based upon the lowest order term of an infinite series solution of the scalar Helmholtz equation in a local region. This difference equation becomes exact in the one-dimensional (1-D) limit, and is thus ideally suited for nearly 1-D devices such as vertical-cavity lasers. The performance of the resulting code is tested on both a simple cylindrical cavity with known solutions and an oxide-confined vertical-cavity laser structure, and the results compared against second-order-accurate code based upon Crank-Nicolson differencing  相似文献

Single-crystal field effect transistors of the organic semiconductor dithiophene-tetrathiafulvalene (DT-TTF) were prepared by drop casting. Long, thin crystals connected two microfabricated gold electrodes, and a silicon substrate was used as a back gate. The highest hole mobility observed was 1.4 cm2/Vs, which is the highest reported for an organic semiconductor not based on pentacene. A high ON/OFF ratio of at least 7 x 105 was obtained for this device.  相似文献

Enantiospecific analysis has an important role in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic investigations and its now no longer acceptable to determine total drug, or metabolite, concentrations following the administration of a racemate. Inspite of the fact that capillary electrophoresis (CE) has become an essential technique in pharmaceutical and enantiospecific analysis, the chromatographic methodologies remain the most commonly used approach for the determination of the enantiomeric composition of drugs in biological fluids. The application of CE to bioanalysis has been slow, which is in part associated with the complexity of biological matrices together with the relatively poor concentration limits of detection achievable. However, as a result of its versatility, high separation efficiency, minimal sample requirements, speed of analysis and low consumable expense CE is likely to play an increasingly significant role in the area. This review present an overview of enantiospecific CE in bioanalysis in which the approaches to enantiomeric resolution and the problems associated with biological matrices are briefly discussed. The application of enantiospecific CE to samples of biological origin is illustrated using examples where the methodology has either solved an analytical problem, or provided a useful alternative to the currently available chromatographic methods. Such improvements in methodology are associated with either the high separation efficiency and/or microanalytical capabilities of the technique. Enantiospecific CE will not replace the chromatographic methodologies but does provide the bioanalyst with a useful addition to his armamentarium.  相似文献

Finite difference equations are derived for the simulation of dielectric waveguides using an Hz-Ez formulation defined on a nonuniform triangular grid. The resulting equations may be solved as a banded eigenproblem for waveguide structures of arbitrary shape composed of regions of piecewise constant isotropic dielectric, and all transverse fields then computed from the solutions. Benchmark comparisons are presented for problems with analytic solutions, as well as a sample calculation of the propagation loss of a hollow Bragg fiber.  相似文献

A simple fabrication process for InGaAs strained quantum well leaky-mode laser arrays is demonstrated. The arrays are ten-element devices grown by two-step metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The structure consists of a strained quantum well InGaAs graded index-separate confinement active region and a thin (0.12 μm), transparent GaAs waveguide region. The near-field pattern typical of leaky-mode phase-locked arrays was measured. Fundamental mode oscillation was observed up to 2 A (threshold was as low as 175 mA). The authors observed a 1 μs pulsed optical output power of 172 mW per facet and a far-field angle (full width at half maximum) of 1.6 times the diffraction limit at 1 A. This is the first reported operation of a strained quantum well leaky-mode laser utilizing a built-in index step  相似文献

This paper describes progress towards developing a platform for rapid prototyping of interactive data visualizations, using R, GGobi, rggobi and RGtk2. GGobi is a software tool for multivariate interactive graphics. At the core of GGobi is a data pipeline that incrementally transforms data through a series of stages into a plot and maps user interaction with the plot back to the data. The GGobi pipeline is extensible and mutable at runtime. The rggobi package, an interface from the R language to GGobi, has been augmented with a low-level interface that supports the customization of interactive data visualizations through the extension and manipulation of the GGobi pipeline. The large size of the GGobi API has motivated the use of the RGtk2 code generation system to create the low-level interface between R and GGobi. The software is demonstrated through an application to interactive network visualization.  相似文献
