Sufficient conditions of non‐uniqueness for the Coulomb friction problem

We consider the Signorini problem with Coulomb friction in elasticity. Sufficient conditions of non‐uniqueness are obtained for the continuous model. These conditions are linked to the existence of real eigenvalues of an operator in a Hilbert space. We prove that, under appropriate conditions, real eigenvalues exist for a non‐local Coulomb friction model. On the use of the Galerkin method for 3D numerical modelling of the general circulation: the South Atlantic eperiment

A linear three‐dimensional hydrodynamical numerical model, with the application of the Galerkin Method for the vertical dependence, is here presented. The spherical coordinate system is used, in order to allow large‐scale simulations. The equations and mathematical development of the model are shown in detail, together with the boundary and initial conditions, and the sequence of equations' solution. The model is applied to the South Atlantic Ocean, for estimating typical seasonal circulations, and the results are summarized in maps of currents at surface and 1000 m depth, and in transport values of the Brazil Current between 30°S and 40°S. The interaction between TEOS and some polyols

Hybrid organic-inorganic materials, silica – polyols (ethylene-glycol – EG; 1,2 propane diol – 1,2PG; 1,3 propane diol – 1,3PG and glycerol – GL), were prepared by a sol-gel process starting from tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and polyols, in acid catalysis. The resulting materials were studied by thermal analysis (in air and nitrogen), FTIR and solid state ²⁹Si-NMR spectroscopy. These techniques evidenced the presence of polyols in the silica matrix both hydrogen bounded and chemically bounded in the silica network. The thermal analysis proves to be the most appropriate technique to evidence the organic chains linked in the matrix network and to follow the thermal evolution of the gels to the SiO₂ matrix.

Contribution to the mass spectrometry of substituted α,ω-alkane diamines The main mass spectral fragmentation pattern of compounds of types 1 to 4 is discussed. After loss of C₆H₅ · CH₂ · from the molecular ion the acid correspondin to the N,N-disubstituted residue is splitted off. The mechanism of this fragmentation reaction depends on the member of CH₂-groups between the two nitrogen atoms (Schemes 1 and 3) and on the substitution pattern of both nitrogens (Scheme 2).     

Synthesis of angiotensins,bradykinins and substance P octapeptides in which the residues Phe and Tyr have been replaced with car and of [Car1, Leu5]-enkephalin

Thirteen peptides, analogues of bradykinin (BK), enkephalin, Substance P (SP) and [Sar¹]-angiotensin II ([Sar¹]-AT_II) have been synthesized by the solid-phase method. In all these peptides the residue Phe and Tyr were substituted with the boron-containing amino-acid L -o-carboranylalanine (Car). The purity and identity of the peptides were established by TLC., cellulose-electrophoresis and amino acid analysis.     

Parametric analysis of oscillatory oxidation reactions

A complete parametric analysis, concerning an overall kinetic model for oscillating catalytic deep oxidation of alcohols, carbon monoxide or hydrogen, is presented. The model contains four parameters.
