The Kalman condition for the boundary controllability of coupled parabolic systems. Bounds on biorthogonal families to complex matrix exponentials

This paper is devoted to prove the controllability to trajectories of a system of n one-dimensional parabolic equations when the control is exerted on a part of the boundary by means of m controls. We give a general Kalman condition (necessary and sufficient) and also present a construction and sharp estimates of a biorthogonal family in L²(0,T;C) to {tje−Λkt}.     

Minimal time of controllability of two parabolic equations with disjoint control and coupling domains

We consider two parabolic equations coupled by a matrix A(x)=q(x)A₀$A(x)=q(x)A_0$, where A₀$A_0$ is a Jordan block of order 1, and controlled by a single localized function, or by a single boundary control. The support of the coupling coefficient, q  , and the control domain may be disjoint. We exhibit an explicit minimal time of null-controllability, T₀(q)∈[0,+∞]$T_0(q)\in [0,+\infty ]$.     

Carleman estimates for stratified media

We consider anisotropic elliptic and parabolic operators in a bounded stratified media in Rn characterized by discontinuities of the coefficients in one direction. The surfaces of discontinuities cross the boundary of the domain. We prove Carleman estimates for these operators with an arbitrary observation region.

Determination of inorganic tin and organotin compounds by graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry with a new matrix modifier

The determination of total tin in water samples by graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry is described. A matrix modifier containing 0.4% (w/v) potassium dichromate and 0.2% ammonium dihydrogenphosphate in 2% nitric acid is proposed. Interferences from major ions in natural fresh waters decreased and the sensitivity is greatly improved. The procedure is compatible with all the commercial injection devices and requires no pretreatment of the graphite furnace or use of a stabilized temperature platform. The 3σ detection limit is 0.62 ng Sn ml^?1, and calibration is linear up to 30 ng ml^?1 tin.

An improved, clean, simple, and efficient method for the synthesis of new series of 2-hydroxy-4-methylenenaphthalen-1(4H)-one is described. This new process involves a domino Michael addition of various methylene acid compounds with the sodium salt of 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate either in basic (tBuOK) polyethylene glycol (PEG300) at room temperature or in a basic (NaOH) water–ethanol medium at 40 °C by a crushing in a mortar or a traditional heating.
