Kinetic determination of silver ion by its perturbation on Belousov-Zhabotinskii oscillating chemical reaction using potentiometric method.

Silver ion can perturb the Belousov-Zhabotinskii (B-Z) oscillating chemical reaction. Therefore, the B-Z oscillating system was applied in the determination of silver ion by using a platinum wire as an indicator electrode in the potentiometric method. The amplitude of the potentiometric oscillation increased linearly in proportion to [Ag+] in the range of 9.42 x 10(-6) M to 2.54 x 10(-4) M, with a correlation coefficient of 0.999 under the optimum conditions. The obtained LOD (2sigma) was 8.85 x 10(-6) M and the relative standard deviation (RSD) for five measurements of 1 x 10(-4) M silver ion was 5%. The influence of some potentially interference was also investigated.     

Iodination of alcohols using triphenylphosphine/iodine under solvent-free conditions using microwave irradiation

A straightforward and effective procedure for the conversion of benzylic, allylic and aliphatic alcohols to the corresponding iodides using Ph₃P/I₂ under solvent-free conditions using microwave irradiation is reported.     

Spectrophotometric study of the complexation of iodine with 1,7-diaza-15-crown-5 in chloroform solution

The complex formation reaction between iodine and 1,7-diaza-15-crown-5 (DA15C5) has been studied spectrophotometrically in chloroform at 25°C. The resulting 1:2 (DA15C5:I₂) molecular complex was formulated as (DA15C5...;I⁺)I ₃ ^– . The spectrophotometric results, as well as the conductivity measurements, revealed that the gradual release of triiodide ion from its contact ion paired form in the molecular complex into the solution is the rate determining step of the reaction. The rate constant was calculated ask=(8.8±0.2)×10^–3 min^–1. The formation constant of the molecular complex was evaluated from the computer fitting of the absorbance-mole ratio data as logK _f=6.89±0.09.     

Content‐Based Image Retrieval Based on Relevance Feedback and Reinforcement Learning for Medical Images

To enable a relevance feedback paradigm to evolve itself by users’ feedback, a reinforcement learning method is proposed. The feature space of the medical images is partitioned into positive and negative hypercubes by the system. Each hypercube constitutes an individual in a genetic algorithm infrastructure. The rules take recombination and mutation operators to make new rules for better exploring the feature space. The effectiveness of the rules is checked by a scoring method by which the ineffective rules will be omitted gradually and the effective ones survive. Our experiments on a set of 10,004 images from the IRMA database show that the proposed approach can better describe the semantic content of images for image retrieval with respect to other existing approaches in the literature.

Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyriines were rapidly and efficiently oxidized using bismuth nitrate supported onto silica gel under microwave irradiation.     

Effect of Al2O3 nanoparticles on the steel-glass/epoxy composite joint bonded by a two-component structural acrylic adhesive

This paper reports a study on the effect of Al₂O₃ nanoparticles on the adhesion strength of steel-glass/epoxy composite joints bonded by a two-component structural acrylic adhesive. The addition of Al₂O₃ nanoparticles to the two-component acrylic adhesive led to a remarkable enhancement in the shear and tensile strength of the composite joints. The shear and tensile strength of the adhesive joints increased by addition of Al₂O₃ up to 1.5 wt%, which decreased by further addition of the nanofiller. Introduction of the nanoparticles caused a reduction in the peel strength of the joints. DSC analysis revealed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the adhesives rose by increasing the nanofiller content. The advancing water contact angle was decreased for adhesives containing nanoparticles. SEM micrographs indicated good dispersions of the Al₂O₃ nanoparticles within the acrylic matrix in the specimens with up to 1.5 wt% Al₂O₃ and revealed that addition of nanoparticles altered the fracture morphology from smooth to rough fracture surfaces.     

An active and selective heterogeneous catalytic system for Michael addition

Potassium fluoride doped natural zeolite was found to be an efficient and selective solid base catalyst for 1,4-Michael addition. The catalyst is easily prepared and the workup procedure simplified by simple filtration.All products were obtained in high yields as well as short reaction times.     

Tracking Performance of an Adaptive MIMO-OFDM LS Estimator via MSE Criterion Over a Wireless Time Correlated Fading Channel

In this contribution, the performance of an adaptive least squares channel estimator for a time correlated MIMO-OFDM channel is presented in a closed form relation. As a criterion for performance evaluation, the well-known mean square error (MSE) is employed. The pilot aided channel estimation is used to extract the channel coefficients. To minimize the MSE and arrange phase shift orthogonally, the pilots are constructed with equal power and space. The model of the channel is developed by implementing a first order Markov model, and it is proved that the performance of the system is dependent upon the defined forgetting factor, the number of transmit antennas, the number of multipath channel taps, transmitted power, and Doppler shift. The effect of each parameter on the performance of the system is discussed separately. The computer simulation results follow with the analytical results comprehensively.
