An experimental analysis of graded-index (GRIN) planar waveguides produced by ion exchange in soda-lime glass is presented. This study is based on a recent model describing nonlinear diffusion. Likewise the modal coupling between planar waveguides, produced in the same substrate, is analyzed in order to design efficient integrated optical components. Finally, waveguiding structures induced by Kerr effect in glass are proposed and analyzed.  相似文献

Light transmission through an inhomogeneous waveguide whose refractive index profile can be represented by one-dimensional hyperbolic secant function is analysed from a geometrical optics point of view. Focusing and collimation conditions are obtained and the design of a light deflector is proposed. The possibility of obtaining almost perfect collimation for an off-axis point source by polishing the exit face of the waveguide is considered.  相似文献

Inorganic and hybrid sols obtained from Si, Ti, Zr and Ce organometallic precursors were used to prepare single and multilayer coatings with different thicknesses. Planar step-index waveguides with different refractive indices were thus prepared by dip-coating the above sols onto commercial soda-lime glass substrates, followed by appropriate thermal annealing. The resultant coatings were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry to elucidate the interface and bonding between the sol–gel derived coatings and the glass substrates. Diffusion of alkali and alkaline earth elements from the glass into the coating layer was confirmed and proposed to play a role in the coating-substrate bonding, inducing excellent optical quality planar interfaces. Optical waveguide characterization performed on a 4.15 μm thick hybrid SiO2:CeO2 (95:5) step-index waveguide yielded losses of 1.50 dB/cm.  相似文献

We study the diffraction fields in a hybrid diffractive-gradient-index element composed of an amplitude zone plate and a quarter-pitch Selfoc gradient-index lens under uniform illumination. Focal positions of the diffractive orders and zone-plate diffraction efficiencies are measured, thereby validating the existing theoretical results.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] A mild palladium-catalyzed cascade has been used for the synthesis of the hormone 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol, 1a) and its analogues 1b and 1c. This one-pot process involves two consecutive transformations at room temperature: An initial palladium-catalyzed 6-exo-cyclocarbopalladation of vinyl triflates followed by a Negishi cross-coupling reaction with an alkenyl zinc. This novel strategy opens new possibilities for the preparation of a variety of new vitamin D analogues of therapeutic potential, particularly with modifications at the triene and/or ring-A.  相似文献

The behaviour of the temporal Talbot effect under carrier partial coherence is analysed. This effect finds application as a passive method for multiplying the repetition rate of the intensity of pulse trains in first-order dispersive media. The study is based on the representation of the average intensity of partially coherent modulated light after first order dispersion as a coherence-dependent low pass filter acting on the intensity distribution obtained with a monochromatic carrier. The resulting coherence limitations are more restrictive in Talbot devices with high indices, due to the necessity of highly coherent carriers to produce a faithful reconstruction of trains by multiple pulse-to-pulse interference. Coherence limitations for architectures composed of externally modulated cw sources are analysed. Generalizations of the theory to several spectral lines, and its relation with the Collett-Wolf theorem are also reported.  相似文献

Inflationary scenarios in string theory often involve a large number of light scalar fields, whose presence can enrich the post-inflationary evolution of primordial fluctuations generated during the inflationary epoch. We provide a simple example of such post-inflationary processing within an explicit string-inflationary construction, using a Kähler modulus as the inflaton within the framework of LARGE Volume Type-IIB string flux compactifications. We argue that inflationary models within this broad category often have a selection of scalars that are light enough to be cosmologically relevant, whose contributions to the primordial fluctuation spectrum can compete with those generated in the standard way by the inflaton. These models consequently often predict nongaussianity at a level, \( {f_{\text{NL}}} \simeq \mathcal{O}\left( {10} \right) \), potentially observable by the Planck satellite, with a bi-spectrum maximized by triangles with squeezed shape in a string realization of the curvaton scenario. We argue that the observation of such a signal would robustly prefer string cosmologies such as these that predict a multi-field dynamics during the very early universe.  相似文献
