Singular terms of helicity amplitudes at one loop in QCD and the soft limit of the cross sections of multi-parton processes

We describe a general method that enables us to obtain all the singular terms of helicity amplitudes of n-parton processes at one loop. The algorithm uses helicity amplitudes at tree level and simple color algebra. We illustrate the method by calculating the singular part of the one-loop helicity amplitudes of all 2 → 3 parton subprocesses. The results are used to derive the soft gluon limit of the cross sections of all 2 → 4 parton scattering subprocesses which provide a useful initial condition for the angular ordering approximation to coherent multiple soft gluon emission, incorporated in existing Monte Carlo simulation programs.     

Multiple Coverings of the Plane with Triangles

We prove that any 43-fold covering of the plane with translates of a triangle can be decomposed into two coverings.     

Globally Linked Pairs of Vertices in Equivalent Realizations of Graphs

A two-dimensional framework (G,p) is a graph G = (V,E) together with a map p: V → ℝ². We view (G,p) as a straight line realization of G in ℝ². Two realizations of G are equivalent if the corresponding edges in the two frameworks have the same length. A pair of vertices {u,v} is globally linked in G if %and for all equivalent frameworks (G,q), the distance between the points corresponding to u and v is the same in all pairs of equivalent generic realizations of G. The graph G is globally rigid if all of its pairs of vertices are globally linked. We extend the characterization of globally rigid graphs given by the first two authors [13] by characterizing globally linked pairs in M-connected graphs, an important family of rigid graphs. As a byproduct we simplify the proof of a result of Connelly [6] which is a key step in the characterization of globally rigid graphs. We also determine the number of distinct realizations of an M-connected graph, each of which is equivalent to a given generic realization. Bounds on this number for minimally rigid graphs were obtained by Borcea and Streinu in [3].     

The remainder in Weyl's law for random two-dimensional

A Law of Large Numbers for the Zeroes of Heine–Stieltjes Polynomials

We determine the limiting density of the zeroes of Heine–Stieltjes polynomials (or of any set of points satisfying the conclusion of Heine–Stieltjes Theorem) in the thermodynamic limit and use this to prove a strong law of large numbers for the zeroes.     

Synthesis of cephalosporins carrying isoxazolyl acetamido and related side chains

Starting from 3,5-dimethylisoxazole the carboxylic acids I and V, the amino acids VIII (L-) and IX (D-), and the ureido acids X (L-) and XI (D-) were prepared, which were used for the synthesis of the new cephalosporins XVIIb, XXa-c (L-), and XXIb (D-). Thein vitro antibacterial activity of these semi-synthetic antibiotics was studied. Synthesis and Odor of Chiral Partial Structures of Khusimone. Part 1

Khusimone (1), one of the main odor-donating compounds of vetiver oil is subject of the following study on structure/odor relationship. The omittance of the ethano bridge of the tricyclic khusimone leads to a bicyclic system. The stereoselective approach to this degraded structure is described, and the olfactory properties are studied. The key step of the synthesis of the hydrindane nucleus is based on a highly diastereoselective conjugate addition to a chiral oxo-cyclopentene-2-carboxylate.     

Infrared spectra of M+NO 3 − contact ion pairs in aprotic solvents and matrix isolated in the corresponding glasses

Studies of the vibrational spectra of matrix-isolated M⁺NO ₃ ^– ion pairs have been extended to glassy aprotic solvents. The deuterated form of the solvents DMSO, THF, and ACN have windows through the 7- nitrate ionv ₃(e) mode infrared region, so it was possible to clearly observe the splitting of the degeneracy of this mode,v ₃, produced by the contacting, but solvated, alkali metal cation. Primary attention has been directed to the extent to which this splitting is reduced relative to the argon matrix values. This reduction, which reflects electron-density transfer from the solvating molecules to the ion pairs, is comparable to that observed for H₂O and NH₃ matrices as the splitting is reduced to 20–35% of the argon-matrix values. The extent of reduction ofv ₃ for the different solvents has been related to Gutmann's donicity number scale with the correlation holding well for solvent molecules of comparable size, DMSO, THF and DMF, but breaking down for the smaller linear ACN, apparently because of more molecules in the cation solvation sphere. The matrix data have also been used, through comparison with spectra for saturated liquid solutions of Li⁺NO ₃ ^– , to show that the contact ion pair is the dominant species in liquid THF and ACN, whereas the ions are largely solvent separated in DMSO.     

The reaction of epibromohydrin with hydroxyquinazolin-2-(1H)one derivatives. Novel oxazine formation

Epibromohydrin was found to react with 7-hydroxy-2-methylpyrrolo[1,2-c]quinazolin-5(6H)-one ( 4 ) in the presence of sodium hydroxide to form the novel oxazine 5 . The structure of compound 5 was proven by cmr and pmr analysis.
