Peculiar features of application of pH gradients formed in borate buffer with a polyhydroxy compound for separation of proteins in a free-flow electrophoretic apparatus

The use of pH gradients in borate buffer with a polyhydroxy compound for separation of proteins in a free-flow electrophoretic apparatus is outlined. The composition of the pH gradients, the free-flow apparatus design and its operation, and the main causes of failures in the protein separation are considered.

The ultraviolet spectra of silocyclobutanes

The UV spectra of Si-substituted silocyclobutanes in vacuum were studied. The bathochromic shift of the absorption band, disclosed by comparison with bands of the corresponding acyclic compounds, can be explained by the highly strained state of the four-membered ring. This same principle in disilocyclobutanes leads to the reduction of the barrier effect of the methylene group, disrupting the interaction of the silicon atoms in the unstrained molecule.     

Synthesis of substituted hydroxypyrazines

Conclusions A new method was developed for the synthesis of substituted hydroxypyrazine derivatives by reacting the hydrochlorides of-amino ketones with the acid chlorides of N-phthaloyl--amino acids in acetone in the presence of diethylaniline, and subsequent treatment of the intermediate N-(N-phthaloyl--aminoacyl)--amino ketones with aqueous sodium acetate solution at 100°.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 10, pp. 2417–2421, October, 1978.     

Synthesis of 2-hydroxy-3-carbethoxy-5,6-dialkylpyrazines

Conclusions Some 2-hydroxy-3-carbethoxy-5,6-dialkylpyrazines were synthesized by reacting the hydrochlorides of -amino ketones with carbethoxyacetyl chloride in the presence of N,N-di-ethylaniline, azo-coupling the obtained N-(carbethoxyacetyl)--amino ketones with phenyldiazonium salt, and reduction of the intermediate N-(phenylhydrazonocarbethoxyacetyl)--amino ketones with zinc.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 5, pp. 1067–1070, May, 1980.     

Syntheses based on 2 -prenyldi hydroresorcinol

Summary On the basis of dihydroresorcinol we prepared 2,2-dimethylchroman-5-ol, 2-prenyl-3-methyl-²-cyclohexen-1-one, 6-methyl-1-tetralone, geranylacetic acid, and 8-rnethyl-⁸-decenoic acid.     

Effect of amides on the bromination of methyl alkyl ketones
