The effect of radiofrequency modulation of 57Fe hyperfine interaction by rotating magnetic field

The effect of ⁵⁷Fe hyperfine interaction radiofrequency (rf) modulation by external rotating magnetic field was studied in thin Permalloy foil by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. The rf effect was investigated as a function of intensity for several rf field frequencies. The experiments show that the external rotating rf field causes considerable changes in the hyperfine pattern. The obtained spectra are in disagreement with those obtained by Perlow [Phys. Rev. 172 (1968) 319]. They also are inconsistent with magnetostriction hypothesis. Proceeding from the Mössbauer spectrum analysis one may conclude that the magnetization of investigated foil changes its direction in a complex manner. However, the undertaken experiments show that the essential number of Mössbauer nuclei experience the rotating magnetic field influence.     

Stark structure of the Yb3+ ion levels in (YbxY1?x)2Ti2O7 and the crystal field in rare-earth titanates with a pyrochlore structure

The absorption spectra of Yb₂Ti₂O₇ single crystals and the luminescence and luminescence excitation spectra of Y₂Ti₂O₇: Yb (1%) polycrystals were studied in the temperature range 4.2–300 K. The spectra were analyzed in terms of the crystal-field theory and the exchange-charge model. Based on the set of crystal-field parameters found for Yb₂Ti₂O₇, analogous sets of parameters were determined for other rare-earth titanates and proved to be in reasonable agreement with all available experimental data. __________ Translated from Fizika Tverdogo Tela, Vol. 47, No. 8, 2005, pp. 1376–1380. Molecular and crystal structure of a mixed-ligand cadmium complex with <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-hydroxybenzoic acid and monoethanolamine

Single crystals of a mixed-ligand cadmium complex of the composition Cd(PHBA)₂(MEA) ₂ are grown from the solution of Cd(CH₃OO)₂, p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA) and monoethanolamine (MEA) in aqueous ethanol. The crystallographic data are as follows: a = 11.6400(2) Å, b = 10.1363(1) Å, c = 16.6296(2) Å, β = 93.937(1)°, space group I2/a, V = 1957.44(5) ų, Z = 4. In the complex molecule located on the twofold axis, ligands of both types are bidentately bound to the cadmium ion having the coordination number 8. In the crystal structure, two H bonds of the O–H???O type combine complex molecules into layers parallel to the ab plane.
