Synthesis and structure-activity relationships of N-substituted 2-[(2-imidazolylsulfinyl)methyl]anilines as a new class of gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase inhibitors.

A series of N-substituted 2-[(2-imidazolylsulfinyl)methyl]anilines (3) was synthesized and evaluated for its biological activity against gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase prepared from rabbit stomach and gastric acid secretions in Heidenhain pouch dogs. Monoalkyl substituents on the nitrogen atom of the aniline moiety markedly inhibited the enzyme activity to the same degree as omeprazole, a representative H+/K(+)-ATPase inhibitor. Most of these compounds, administered at 3 mg/kg i.v. inhibited histamine-stimulated gastric acid secretion. The inhibitory activity of these derivatives on the enzymes at pH 6.0 was more potent than that at pH 7.4, and was distinctly correlated to stability in aqueous solution at pH 5.0.     

Optimized Pump Power Ratio on 2nd Order Pumping Discrete Raman Amplifier

By optimizing pump power ratio between 1st order backward pump and 2nd order forward pump on discrete Raman amplifier, we demonstrated over 2dB noise figure improvement without excessive non-linearity degradation.     

Development of high-repetition-rate LD pumped Nd:YAG laser and its application

High-average-power and high-energy lasers with good beam quality are fundamental tools for pumping high-peak and high-average-power ultrafast Ti:sapphire laser systems. Laser-diode (LD) pumped solid slate lasers with phase conjugation offer a unique combination of efficiency, reliability, and compactness. We present the design details and performance characteristics of a 360-W 1-kHz LD pumped Nd:YAG phase-conjugated laser. We also discuss the basic design aspects and present our preliminary experimental investigations on ultrashort-pulse laser systems.     

Photo-Absorption and photochemical decomposition of copper and alkaline-earth ß-diketonates as source gases of high-Tc superconducting films

For low-temperature deposition of oxide films relating to Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductors, photo-absorption and -decomposition properties were examined with respect to copper and alkaline-earth ß-diketonates. It was confirmed that all ß-diketonates examined were promising as source materials for photochemical vapour deposition (photo-CVD) using a low-pressure mercury lamp, in view of their large light absorption coefficients at wavelength 254 nm. The light irradiation was effective for the formation of highly crystalline oxide films at temperatures below 600 °C. By combining two sources, Ca₂CuO₃ and SrCuO₂ films were prepared. Photo-CVD of c-axis oriented Bi₂Sr₂CuO_x film was achieved by the irradiation of ternary sources of Bi(C₆H₅)₃ and strontium and copper ß-diketonates at 500 °C.     

Simultaneous determination of the binding of amantadine and its analogues to synthetic melanin by liquid chromatography after precolumn derivatization with dansyl chloride

For the determination of amantadine (1-ADA), 2-adamantanamine (2-ADA), memantine (MEM), and rimantadine (RIM) in melanin binding studies, the simultaneous determination of 1-ADA or 2-ADA, MEM, and RIM is investigated by high-performance liquid chromatographic assay with dansyl chloride as a fluorescent derivative reagent. Dansyl derivatives with fluorescent intensity are detected at an excitation wavelength of 370 nm and an emission wavelength of 506 nm. Retention times of 1-ADA, 2-ADA, MEM, and RIM derivatives are 12.2, 12.2, 15.2, and 16.6 min, respectively. The peak of 1-ADA derivative coelutes with the 2-ADA derivative. The limits of detection for 1-ADA, 2-ADA, MEM, and RIM are 0.014, 0.007, 0.012, and 0.020microM, respectively (signal-to-noise ratio of 3:1). In the intra- and interday assay, the range of standard deviation to the average of 1-ADA, 2-ADA, MEM, and RIM is 4.6-12.7%. Their recovery is also good. The ranking order for synthetic melanin binding among these compounds is RIM > MEM > 2-ADA = 1-ADA. The method is simple, sensitive, and reproducible for simultaneously measuring 1-ADA or 2-ADA, MEM, and RIM. Also, it is useful to investigate their binding kinetics to melanin.     

Highly (Z)-selective synthesis of beta-monosubstituted alpha,beta-unsaturated cyanides using the peterson reaction

[reaction: see text] The Peterson reaction between (t-BuO)Ph(2)SiCH(2)CN and various aldehydes furnishes the corresponding beta-monosubstituted alpha,beta-unsaturated cyanides with high Z selectivity (Z:E = 92:8 to >98:2).     

Synthesis and Odor Evaluation of Stereoisomers of Imine Derivatives in Roasted Spotted Shrimp

All possible stereoisomers of imine derivatives 1 – 4 , which have the characteristic roast odor of seafood, were synthesized. As a result of odor evaluation of all isomers, we found that each isomer has a different and characteristic odor of roasted seafood.
