Multinomial permutations on a circle are considered in the framework of combinatorics. Different cases are presented and shown to agree with previously derived formula for the number of cyclic necklaces. Three-pencil lattices on triangulations

In this paper, three-pencil lattices on triangulations are studied. The explicit representation of a lattice, based upon barycentric coordinates, enables us to construct lattice points in a simple and numerically stable way. Further, this representation carries over to triangulations in a natural way. The construction is based upon group action of S ₃ on triangle vertices, and it is shown that the number of degrees of freedom is equal to the number of vertices of the triangulation.      

Kinetics of formation of a linear polymer-polymer network system in the presence of 3d metal chelates

For semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPNs) based on an incompatible polyurethane network/linear polymethylmethacrylate pair formed in situ in the presence of 3d metal chelates, we have studied the effect of the system composition on the kinetics of formation of the components and the nature of complex formation between the metal compound and the polymer matrix. The ratio of the system components has been shown to have an effect on the selection of the macroligand in formation of complexes of the metal chelate with the polar groups of the semi-IPN, where the general character of the kinetic behavior for the formation of the network and the linear polymer is preserved. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i éksperimental’naya Khimiya, Vol. 42, No. 6, pp. 351–356, November–December, 2006.     

Discrimination of guests encapsulation in large hexameric molecular capsules in solution: pyrogallol[4]arene versus resorcin[4]arene capsules

NMR experiments demonstrate that, although 2b and 3b form hexameric capsules in chloroform solutions and despite the very similar building units of these hexamers, 3b encapsulates only the noncharged trialkylamines while 2b can encapsulate both the noncharged trialkylamines and the respective ammonium salts obtained by the addition of DCl. In fact, it was found that protonation that forms in situ the ammonium salt ejects the guest from the hexameric capsule of 3b. This is a general observation as it was found for guests containing alkyl chains of four, five, six, and eight carbons.     

Dependence of the reactivity of allophanates on the conformation of the main chain

The CNDO/2 method was used to investigate the conformation and structure of alkylsubstituted allophanates. The possibility of the existence of isomers both with coplanar and with noncoplanar main chains NCNC was studied. It was shown that the formation of conformers with a cis-structure of the ester group is more probable. On the basis of an analysis of the dependence of the reactivity on the structure of the main chain, hypotheses were advanced on the role of the more stable conformers in various channels of polyaddition of isocyanates.Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Éksperimental'naya Khimiya, Vol. 22, No. 3, pp. 360–363, May–June, 1986.     

The Binary System BaF2/AlF3

The system BaF₂/AlF₃ is investigated by X-ray and D.T.A., and the liquid-solid phase diagram is established. Five ternary fluorides are disclosed: trimorphic BaAlF₅, Ba₃Al₂F₁₂, Ba₅AlF₁₉, polymorphic Ba₃AlF₉ and Ba₅AlF₁₃. Neutron thermodiffractometry experiments are performed to specify some parts of the diagram. The cell parameters of the fluorides are given and the results are discussed and compared with those of the previous works.     

Thomas–Fermi theory from a perturbative treatment of the hydrogenic limit energy density functional: A possible link to local density functional theory

A perturbation expansion which connects the hydrogenic limit energy density functional to the Thomas–Fermi functional is discussed. This perturbation series, where the Coulomb energy density functional is treated as the perturbation to the hydrogenic limit functional, is, in fact, the q = (N/Z) expansion of Thomas–Fermi theory. A truncated form of the first-order correction to the functional provides further insight into the model which treats the ground state energy as a local functional of the electron density.     

The Crystal Structure of Pb8FeIIFeF24: an ordered Fluorite-like Compound

Pb₈Fe^IIFeF₂₄ is triclinic: a = 20.118(3) Å, b = 5.597(1) Å, c = 9.440(2) Å, α = 89.75(2)°, β = 105.79(2)°, α = 89.38(2)°, Z = 2. The structure is solved in the unconventional space group C1 , from X-ray single crystal data using 1 641 independent reflections (R = 0.048, R_w = 0.051). It is built up from the stacking of two subnetworks along the a axis: fluorite-like [Pb₈F₁₀]_n⁶ⁿ⁺ layers and infinite dimetallic [Fe^IIFeF₁₄]_n^6n? double-chains of corner-sharing octahedra running along the b axis.     

Thermally activated conduction in molecular junctions

We report temperature dependence measurements on the conductance of individual molecular wires. The results show for the first time in a molecular junction the theoretically predicted transition from coherent superexchange tunneling conductance to an activated hopping mechanism as temperature is increased.
