This paper reports the results of experimental and modeling efforts to characterize partial oxidation of methane to produce synthesis gas (H2 and CO) using metal-substituted hexaaluminate catalysts in short-contact-time reactors. Hexaaluminate catalysts offer excellent high-temperature stability compared to the equivalent metal-based catalysts. The hexaaluminates are synthesized by a metal-exchange process using alumoxane precursors that enable a wide range of metal substitutions. Of all the combinations tested, RhSr-substituted hexaaluminates yielded the best performance. The catalysts are supported on alumina porous-foam structures, which are positioned within a tube furnace to control the operating temperature. Two-stage combinations of RhSr- and Ni-substituted hexaaluminates are shown to improve conversion activity and selectivity compared to a single-catalyst system.  相似文献

The adsorption of lipoteichoic acid onto the surface of titanium dioxide is shown to be heterogeneous. 31P CPMAS solid-state NMR reveals two distinct phosphate species. The chemical shift anisotropy, asymmetry parameter, and rotating-frame spin-lattice relaxation suggest that 50% of the phosphates are bound to the surface. The remaining phosphates also exhibit restricted molecular motion, but do not have a direct surface bond.  相似文献

This paper describes progress towards developing a platform for rapid prototyping of interactive data visualizations, using R, GGobi, rggobi and RGtk2. GGobi is a software tool for multivariate interactive graphics. At the core of GGobi is a data pipeline that incrementally transforms data through a series of stages into a plot and maps user interaction with the plot back to the data. The GGobi pipeline is extensible and mutable at runtime. The rggobi package, an interface from the R language to GGobi, has been augmented with a low-level interface that supports the customization of interactive data visualizations through the extension and manipulation of the GGobi pipeline. The large size of the GGobi API has motivated the use of the RGtk2 code generation system to create the low-level interface between R and GGobi. The software is demonstrated through an application to interactive network visualization.  相似文献

We consider diffraction by a semi-infinite crack located alonga fusion interface between two differing elastic media. Twotypes of crack, namely open and partially closed cracks, areinvestigated. An open crack is modelled by a stress-free contactboundary condition and a partially closed crack is modelledby a spring contact boundary condition. For the latter, thejump in the stress across the crack is assumed to be proportionalto the jump in the displacement across the crack. This situationarises in, for example, a K-weld where the fine grain of theparent material (for example, ferritic or forged austeniticsteel) is in stark contrast with the coarse-grained weld metal(for example, austenitic weld metal). In the metal weld thedirection of the grain axis varies through the metal. However,diffraction is a local phenomenon and so the austenitic steelis assumed to have a zonal axis so that it may be modelled bya transversely isotropic composite. The ferritic or forged austeniticsteel will be modelled as an isotropic material.  相似文献

T , the first of two articles, is concerned with the scattering of elastic waves by arbitrary surface-breaking or near surface defects in an isotropic half-plane. We present an analytical solution, by the method of matched asymptotic expansions, when the parameter , which is the ratio of a typical length scale of the imperfection to the incident radiation's wavelength, is small. The problem is formulated for a general class of small defects, including cracks, surface bumps and inclusions, and for arbitrary incident waves. As a straightforward example of the asymptotic scheme we specialize the defect to a two-dimensional circular void or protrusion, which breaks the free surface, and assume Rayleigh wave excitation ; this inner problem is exactly solvable by conformal mapping methods. The displacement field is found uniformly to leading order in , and the Rayleigh waves which are scattered by the crack are explicitly determined. In the second article we use the method given here to tackle the important problem of an inclined edge-crack. In that work we show that the scattered field can be found to any asymptotic order in a straightforward manner, and in particular the Rayleigh wave coefficients are given to O(2).  相似文献

The role of the lithium ion environment is of fundamental interest regarding transport and conductivity in lithium polymer electrolytes. X-ray crystallography has been used to characterize the lithium environment in completely crystalline poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) electrolytes, but this approach cannot be used with dilute PEO electrolytes. Here, using solid-state NMR data collected with the rotational-echo double-resonance 13C[7Li] (REDOR) pulse sequence, we have been able to characterize the crystalline microdomains of a PEO-lithium triflate sample with an oxygen/lithium ratio of 20:1. Our data clearly demonstrates that the lithium crystalline microdomains are nearly identical to those of a completely crystalline 3:1 sample, for which the crystal structure is known.  相似文献

For the 2006 ASA Data Exposition we created graphics that, in the legacy of John Tukey, tried to “force the unexpected upon us” (Tukey in Proceedings of the 18th conference on design of experiments in Army research and development I, Washington, 1972). The data were geographic and meteorological measurements taken every month for 6 years on a coarse 24 by 24 grid covering Central America. Using conventional static graphics and some less conventional interactive graphics, we were able to find expected features in the data, such as seasonal patterns, spatial correlations, and El Niño events, as well as some more surprising results, several of which were corroborated by stories in the news.  相似文献

This article proposes a bootstrap local bandwidth selector for estimating nonparametric additive models. The selector is derived from a bootstrap approximation of the conditional mean squared error, based on a wild bootstrap resampling scheme applied to the estimated residuals. The selector is computed exactly (without involving Monte Carlo approximations) and in practice can be evaluated for many additive estimation methods, including backfitting (bivariate), marginal integration, and mixed methods. We study the consistency of the bootstrap approximation and also carry out an empirical simulation study to explore the performance of the proposed selector in comparison with others. The graphical tool SiZer Map enables us to make meaningful comparisons between local and global selectors.  相似文献
