Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) spontaneously assemble into gels when mixed with a polyionic organic or inorganic salt. Here, we have used this ion-induced gelation strategy to create functional CNC gels with a rigid tetracationic macrocycle, cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) ( CBPQT 4+). Addition of [ CBPQT ]Cl4 to CNCs causes gelation and embeds an active host inside the material. The fabricated CNC gels can reversibly absorb guest molecules from solution then undergo molecular recognition processes that create colorful host–guest complexes. These materials have been implemented in gel chromatography (for guest exchange and separation), and as elements to encode 2- and 3-dimensional patterns. We anticipate that this concept might be extended to design a set of responsive and selective gel-like materials functioning as, for instance, water-pollutant scavengers, substrates for chiral separations, or molecular flasks.  相似文献

New bioactive nanocomposite films were prepared by compression molding method for food applications. Film matrix was composed of poly(lactic acid) containing cellulose nanocrystals (PLA-CNC). Nanocomposite films were converted to bioactive films using nisin as an antimicrobial agent by an adsorption coating method. Resulting antimicrobial films were then introduced in packages containing sliced cooked ham as a food model and stored for 14 days at 4 °C to determine their inhibiting capacity against Listeria monocytogenes and their physicochemical and structural properties. The study also focused on the nisin release from the films by using an agar diffusion bioassay. It was observed that mechanical properties such as tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break and water vapor permeability values of the bioactive films were stable after 14 days of storage. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis allowed characterizing the adsorption of nisin onto PLA-CNC surface. Microbiological analysis of sliced cooked ham inoculated with L. monocytogenes (3 log CFU/g) allowed determining the potentiality of nisin as a strong antimicrobial agent in PLA-CNC-based films. Bioactive PLA-CNC-nisin films showed a significant reduction of L. monocytogenes in ham from day 1 and a total inhibition from day 3. The percentage of nisin release increased continuously from day 0 to day 14, up to 21 % at day 14. These results demonstrated the potential application of PLA-CNC-nisin films on controlling the growth of food pathogens in meat products.  相似文献

Natural flavonoids, in addition to some of their synthetic derivatives, are recognized for their remarkable medicinal properties. The present study was designed to investigate the in vitro antioxidant and in vivo antistress effect of synthetic flavonoids (flavones and flavonols) in mice, where stress was induced by injecting acetic acid and physically through swimming immobilization. Among the synthesized flavones (F1–F6) and flavonols (OF1–OF6), the mono para substituted methoxy containing F3 and OF3 exhibited maximum scavenging potential against DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) with IC50 of 31.46 ± 1.46 μg/mL and 25.54 ± 1.21 μg/mL, respectively. Minimum antioxidant potential was observed for F6 and OF6 with IC50 values of 174.24 ± 2.71 μg/mL and 122.33 ± 1.98 μg/mL, respectively, in comparison with tocopherol. The ABTS scavenging activity of all the synthesized flavones and flavonols were significantly higher than observed with DPPH assay, indicating their potency as good antioxidants and the effectiveness of ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) assay in evaluating antioxidant potentials of chemical substances. The flavonoids-treated animals showed a significant (* p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01 and *** p < 0.001, n = 8) reduction in the number of writhes and an increase in swimming endurance time. Stressful conditions changed plasma glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which were used as markers when evaluating stress in animal models. The level of these markers was nearly brought to normal when pre-treated with flavones and flavonols (10 mg/kg) for fifteen days in experimental animals. These compounds also considerably reduced the levels of lipid peroxidation (TBARS: Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances), which was significant (* p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01 and *** p < 0.001, n = 8) compared to the control group. A significant rise in the level of catalase and SOD (super oxide dismutase) was also observed in the treated groups. Diazepam (2 mg/kg) was used as the standard drug. Additionally, the flavonoids markedly altered the weight of the adrenal glands, spleen and brain in stress-induced mice. The findings of the study suggest that these flavonoids could be used as a remedy for stress and are capable of ameliorating diverse physiological and biochemical alterations associated with stressful conditions. However, further experiments are needed to confirm the observed potentials in other animal models, especially in those with a closer resemblance to humans. Toxicological evaluations are also equally important.  相似文献

Chiral nematic mesoporous phenol‐formaldehyde resins, which were prepared using cellulose nanocrystals as a template, can be used as a substrate to produce latent photonic images. These resins undergo swelling, which changes their reflected color. By writing on the films with chemical inks, the density of methylol groups in the resin changes, subsequently affecting their degree of swelling and, consequently, their color. Writing on the films gives latent images that are revealed only upon swelling of the films. Using inkjet printing, it is possible to make higher resolution photonic patterns both as text and images that can be visualized by swelling and erased by drying. This novel approach to printing photonic patterns in resin films may be applied to anti‐counterfeit tags, signage, and decorative applications.  相似文献

The present study was aimed to investigate the variation of stable isotopic ratios of carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen in wheat kernel along with different processed fractions from three geographical origins across 5 years using isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS). Multiway ANOVA revealed significant differences among region, harvest year, processing, and their interactions for all isotopes. The region contributed the major variability in the δ13C ‰, δ2H ‰, δ15N ‰, and δ18O‰ values of wheat. Variation of δ13C ‰, δ15N ‰, and δ18O ‰ between wheat whole kernel and its products (break, reduction, noodles, and cooked noodles) were ?0.7‰, and no significant difference was observed, suggesting the reliability of these isotope fingerprints in geographical traceability of wheat‐processed fractions and foods. A significant influence of wheat processing was observed for δ2H values. By applying linear discriminant analysis (LDA) to the whole dataset, the generated model correctly classified over 91% of the samples according to the geographical origin. The application of these parameters will assist in the development of an analytical control procedure that can be utilized to control the mislabeling regarding geographical origin of wheat kernel and its products.  相似文献

Anterior Gradient 2 (AGR2) has recently been reported as a tumor biomarker in various cancers, i.e., breast, prostate and lung cancer. Predominantly, AGR2 exists as a homodimer via a dimerization domain (E60-K64); after it is self-dimerized, it helps FGF2 and VEGF to homo-dimerize and promotes the angiogenesis and the invasion of vascular endothelial cells and fibroblasts. Up till now, no small molecule has been discovered to inhibit the AGR2–AGR2 homodimer. Therefore, the present study was performed to prepare a validated 3D structure of AGR2 by homology modeling and discover a small molecule by screening the FDA-approved drugs library on AGR2 homodimer as a target protein. Thirteen different homology models of AGR2 were generated based on different templates which were narrowed down to 5 quality models sorted by their overall Z-scores. The top homology model based on PDB ID?=?3PH9 was selected having the best Z-score and was further assessed by Verify-3D, ERRAT and RAMPAGE analysis. Structure-based virtual screening narrowed down the large library of FDA-approved drugs to ten potential AGR2–AGR2 homodimer inhibitors having FRED score lower than ? 7.8 kcal/mol in which the top 5 drugs’ binding stability was counter-validated by molecular dynamic simulation. To sum up, the present study prepared a validated 3D structure of AGR2 and, for the first time reported the discovery of 5 FDA-approved drugs to inhibit AGR2–AGR2 homodimer by using structure-based virtual screening. Moreover, the binding of the top 5 hits with AGR2 was also validated by molecular dynamic simulation.

Liquid crystalline tactoids are anisotropic microdroplets existing in isotropic phases. We studied the structure and evolution of tactoids in the presence of doping nanoparticles by electron microscopy at the resolution of individual mesogens and observed size‐selective exclusion effects of liquid crystalline tactoids on foreign nanoparticles. We applied this principle to the separation of polymer nanospheres, gold nanoparticles, and magnetic nanoparticles by size. These results indicate a new way to size‐selectively separate nanoparticles using lyotropic liquid crystals, in which nanoparticles smaller than a threshold size will be selectively transferred from the disordered phase into the ordered phase by tactoids during the phase separation process.  相似文献
