Backward particle production in neutrino neon interactions

Backward proton and pion production is studied in ν and \(\bar v\) charged current interactions in neon. The results are compared with other experiments and theory. The complete backward proton data is compatible with protons produced by reinteractions in the nucleus. However in events with only one proton, muon variables appear correlated to those for the backward proton, as expected by the two-nucleon correlation model.     

Coherent single pion production by antineutrino charged current interactions and test of PCAC

The cross section for coherent production of a single π^? meson in charged current antineutrino interactions on neon nuclei has been measured in BEBC to be (175±25) 10^?40 cm²/neon nucleus, averaged over the energy spectrum of the antineutrino wide band beam at the CERN SPS; this corresponds to (0.9±0.1) % of the total charged current \(\bar v_\mu \) cross section. The distributions of kinematical variables are in agreement with theoretical predictions based on the PCAC hypothesis and the meson dominance model; in particular, theQ ² dependence is well described by a propagator containing a massm=(1.35±0.18) GeV. The absolute value of the cross section is also in agreement with the model. This analysis thus provides a test of the PCAC hypothesis in the antineutrino energy range 5–150 GeV.     

Diffractive production of charmed strange mesons by neutrinos and antineutrinos

The diffractive production of charmed strangeD _s ^* and possiblyD _s mesons by neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons in hydrogen, deuterium and neon targets is observed. The slope parameter of thet distribution is 3.3±0.8 (GeV)^?2. The production rate per charged current neutrino interaction with an isoscalar target times the D _s ⁺ →φτ⁺ branching fraction is (1.03±0.27)×10^?4.     

Heteronuclear dipolar decoupling in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance under ultra-high magic-angle spinning

We compare in this communication several heteronuclear dipolar decoupling sequences in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance experiments under a magic-angle spinning frequency of 60 kHz. The decoupling radiofrequency field amplitudes considered are 190 and 10 kHz. No substantial difference was found among the sequences considered here in performance barring the difference in the optimisation protocol of the various schemes, an aspect that favours the use of swept-frequency two pulse phase modulation (SW(f)-TPPM).

Feedstock flexibility in sustainable chemistry: Bridging sectors still not sufficiently familiar with each other – Showcases of ongoing and emerging initiatives

The replacement of the fossil resources historically employed for chemicals' production is of major scientific interest the last decades, as a result of the environmental issues arisen and the price versatility of petroleum. Biotechnological routes present promising alternatives for the production of various platform chemicals such as succinic, lactic and muconic acids among others. The utilisation of agricultural and agro-industrial waste and by-product streams would not only reduce the overall production cost but also it would assist towards the direction of the bio-economy era. This review presents some important chemicals produced from renewable feedstocks, aiming to bridge the waste suppliers to the chemical production industries.     

Spin-polarised DFT study of cobalt-doped gallium clusters

The structural, electronic and magnetic properties of small gallium clusters doped with Cobalt have been studied using spin-polarised density functional theory. The binding energy per atom, second-order differences of total energies and fragmentation energies of equilibrium geometries of the host Ga_n+1 and doped Ga_nCo (n = 1–12) clusters are computed. Doped clusters are found to be more stable than pure Ga clusters; Ga₃Co, Ga₅Co and Ga₈Co clusters are exceptionally stable. Doping with Co changes the highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO–LUMO) gap, and also affects the magnetic moments of clusters.
