In this paper we extend the plane blow-up results of Grundy& McLaughlin (1997) to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations.Using a solution structure originally due to Lin we first providenumerical evidence for the existence of blow-up solutions on- < x, z < , 0 y 1 with boundary conditions on y = 0and y = 1 involving derivatives of the velocity components.The formulation enables us to consider plane and radial flowas special cases. Various features of the computations are isolatedand are used to construct a formal asymptotic solution closeto blow-up. We show that the numerical and asymptotic analysesprovide a mutually consistent global picture which supportsthe conclusion that, for the family of problems we considerhere, blow-up in fact can take place in three dimensions butat an inverse linear rate rather than the faster inverse squareof the plane case.  相似文献

Ice nucleating-active Pseudomonas fluorescens F264C was fed to Colorado potato beetles to determine bacterial retentioin in the beetle gut and its effect on the cold hardiness of this insect pest. The bacrterium was present in beetles recovered after overwintering in the field, seven months after their exposure to P. fluorescens. Retention was evident not only in the detection of the P. fluorescens ice nucleating gene, inaW, in bacterial cultures from beetle guts but also in the elevated supercooling points of some treated beetles.  相似文献

A new formula for the conserved charges in 3+1 gravity for spacetimes with local anti-de Sitter asymptotic geometry is proposed. It is shown that requiring the action to have an extremum for this class of asymptotia sets the boundary term that must be added to the Lagrangian as the Euler density with a fixed weight factor. The resulting action gives rise to the mass and angular momentum as Noether charges associated to the asymptotic Killing vectors without requiring specification of a reference background in order to have a convergent expression. A consequence of this definition is that any negative constant curvature spacetime has vanishing Noether charges. These results remain valid in the Lambda = 0 limit.  相似文献

A specific calibration procedure that allows the accurate determination of densities of room temperature ionic liquids, RTILs, as a function of temperature and pressure using vibrating tube densimeters is presented. This methodology overcomes the problems of common calibration methods when they are used to determine the densities of high density and high viscosity fluids such as RTILs. The methodology is applied for the precise density determination of RTILs 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [Emim][BF4], 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [Bmim][BF4], 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [Hmim][BF4], and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [Omim][BF4] in the temperature and pressure intervals (283.15 to 323.15) K and (0.1 to 60) MPa, respectively. The viscosities of these substances, needed for the estimation of the viscosity-induced errors, were estimated at the same conditions from the experimental measurements in the intervals (283.15 to 323.15) K and (0.1 to 14) MPa and from a specific extrapolation procedure. The uncertainty in the density measurements was estimated in ±0.30 kg · m?3 which is an excellent value in the working intervals. The results of these RTILs have demonstrated that viscosity-induced errors are relevant and they must be taken into account for a precise density determination. Finally, an alternative tool for a simpler application of this procedure is presented.  相似文献

The temperature and pressure dependence of isobaric thermal expansivity, α(p), in liquids is discussed in this paper. Reported literature data allow general trends in this property that are consistent with experimental evidence to be established. Thus, a negative pressure dependence is to be expected except around the critical point. On the other hand, α(p) exhibits broad regions of negative and positive temperature dependence in the (T, p) plane depending on the nature of the particular liquid. These trends are rationalized here in terms of various molecular-based equations of state. The analysis of the Lennard-Jones, hard sphere square well and restricted primitive model equations allows understanding the differences in the α(p) behavior between liquids of diverse chemical nature (polar, nonpolar, and ionic): broader regions of negative temperature and positive pressure dependencies are obtained for liquids characterized by larger ranges of the interparticle potential. Also, using the statistical associating fluid theory (SAFT) allowed the behavior of more complex systems (basically, those potentially involving chain and association effects) to be described. The effect of chain length is rather simple: increasing it is apparently equivalent to raise the interaction range. By contrast, association presents a quite complex effect on α(p), which comes from a balance between the dispersive and associative parts of the interaction potential. Thus, if SAFT parameters are adjusted to obtain low association ability, α(p) is affected by each mechanism at clearly separate regions, one at low temperature, due to association, and the other to dispersive forces, which has its origin in fluctuations related with vapor-liquid transition.  相似文献

In the search of a useful method for determining excess enthalpies as a function of temperature Calvet calorimetry was employed. To this end, excess molar enthalpies
at 298.15 and 333.15 K and excess molar heat capacities
within 283.15–333.15 K were determined for the 1-decanol+n-decane system over the whole composition range. An isothermal flow Calvet-type calorimeter was used for
measurements, whereas
were determined by means of a Setaram Micro DSC calorimeter. Excess enthalpies within 283.15–333.15 K were indirectly obtained through the integration of
(T) data using
at 298.15 K. The results obtained at 333.15 K agreed with those determined directly, implying the thermodynamic consistency of the measured data and, therefore, the reliability of the indirect method.  相似文献

The sd-interacting boson approximation (sd-IBA) and the df-interacting boson approximation (df-IBA) can be related to each other and the states of the interacting boson approximation model can be identified with the fully symmetric states in the sdf interacting boson approximation model. A systematic study of the sdf-IBA model showed that the constructed Hamiltonian can successfully describe the strong octupole correlations in the deformed nuclei. We showed that the interacting boson approximation may account for many of these K π ?=?0+ states. It was found that the calculated energy spectra of the gadolinium isotopes agree quite well with the experimental data. The observed B(E2) values were also calculated and compared with the experimental data.  相似文献
