Phase diagram, crystal chemistry and thermoelectric properties of compounds in the Ca-Co-Zn-O system

In the Ca-Co-Zn-O system, we have determined the tie-line relationships and the thermoelectric properties, solid solution limits, and structures of two low-dimensional cobaltite series, Ca3(Co, Zn)4O9−z and Ca3(Co,Zn)2O6−z at 885 °C in air. In Ca3(Co,Zn)4O9−z, which has a misfit layered structure, Zn was found to substitute in the Co site to a limit of Ca3(Co3.8Zn0.2)O9−z. The compound Ca3(Co,Zn)2O6−z (n=1 member of the homologous series, Can+2(Co,Zn)n(Co,Zn)′O3n+3−z) consists of one-dimensional parallel (Co,Zn)2O66− chains that are built from successive alternating face-sharing (Co,Zn)O6 trigonal prisms and ‘n’ units of (Co,Zn)O6 octahedra along the hexagonal c-axis. Zn substitutes in the Co site of Ca3Co2O6 to a small amount of approximately Ca3(Co1.95Zn0.05)O6−z. In the ZnO-CoOz system, Zn substitutes in the tetrahedral Co site of Co3O4 to the maximum amount of (Co2.49Zn0.51)O4−z and Co substitutes in the Zn site of ZnO to (Zn0.94Co0.06)O. The crystal structures of (Co2.7Zn0.3)O4−z, (Zn0.94Co0.06)O, and Ca3(Co1.95 Zn0.05)O6−z are described. Despite the Ca3(Co, Zn)2O6−z series having reasonably high Seebeck coefficients and relatively low thermal conductivity, the electrical resistivity values of its members are too high to achieve high figure of merit, ZT. 相似文献

A formal aza-Michael addition to tropone by way of tricarbonyl(tropone)iron and/or the tetrafluoroborate salt formed via protonation of the complex is reported. Tricarbonyl(tropone)iron smoothly undergoes the direct aza-Michael reaction with unhindered aliphatic amines under solvent free conditions in good yields. Meanwhile, the known cationic complex [(C7H7O)Fe(CO)3]BF4 (whose reaction with a small number of nucleophiles was previously reported) undergoes addition with an even broader array of amine nucleophiles. Finally, it was discovered that protecting the aza-Michael adduct as a carbamate was necessary for oxidative demetallation of the complex. 相似文献

We have utilized a solvothermal nano‐plating technique to grow nano‐structured CoSb3 directly onto the surface of micron‐sized CoSb3 particles that were subsequently hot pressed and densified into a homogeneous skutterudite nano‐composite. We herein present results for three samples: a bulk sample to serve as a reference, and two samples with solvothermally grown nano‐structures of 5 wt% and 20 wt%, respectively. All three samples used the same bulk starting materials. The thermal conductivity was measured via two independent techniques (steady state and laser flash) and both show a systematic reduction in the thermal conductivity with an increasing amount of nano‐structures. Photo-redox mediated ring-opening metathesis polymerization (photo-ROMP) is an emerging ROMP technique that uses an organic redox mediator and a vinyl ether initiator, in contrast to metal-based initiators traditionally used in ROMP. The reversibility of the redox-mediated initiation and propagation steps enable spatiotemporal control over the polymerization. Herein, we explore a simple, inexpensive means of controlling molecular weight, using alpha olefins as chain transfer agents. This method enables access to low molecular weight oligomers, and molecular weights between 1 and 30 kDa can be targeted simply by altering the stoichiometry of the reaction. This method of molecular weight control was then used to synthesize a functionalized norbornene copolymer in a range of molecular weights for specific materials applications. 相似文献

The influence of the viscosity of a two‐component system on its molecular dynamics (on the basis of hypersonic wave velocity and attenuation coefficient) and photopolymerization kinetics was studied. The system investigated represented the solution of poly(benzyl methacrylate), PBzMA (MW = 70000) in its monomer, benzyl methacrylate (BzMA). The viscosity of the system was varied by adding various amounts of the polymer to the monomer (10–50 wt %). The molecular dynamics in the neat BzMA was studied by the proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spin‐lattice relaxation time measurements and the wide‐line 1H NMR spectroscopy in a wide range of temperature. Information on the local dynamics in liquid BzMA above its melting temperature was gained from the high‐resolution 1H and 13C NMR spectra. The hypersonic wave velocity and the attenuation coefficient were investigated in the appropriate temperature range related to a viscoelastic relaxation process by the Brillouin light scattering method. The kinetic measurements have demonstrated that the photopolymerization rate rapidly increases and the monomer conversion decreases with increasing polymer‐to‐monomer ratio; this effect has been noted in the whole range of polymer concentration and reaction temperature studied. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Partially filled polycrystalline p‐type skutterudites of nominal compositions Ybx Co3FeSb12 were synthesized and their thermoelectric properties characterized. The compositions and filling fractions were confirmed with a combination of Rietveld refinement and elemental analysis. The thermoelectric properties were evaluated from 300 K to 810 K. The Seebeck coefficient and resistivity increase while the thermal conductivity decreases with increasing Yb content. A maximum ZT value of 0.85 was obtained at 810 K. This work is part of a continuing effort to enhance the thermoelectric properties of p‐type skutterudites, as this class of materials continues to be of interest for thermoelectrics applications.
