Two-stream-like mechanism of zonal-flow generation by Rossby waves in a shallow rotating fluid

It is shown that the small-scale Rossby waves in a shallow rotating fluid placed in a gravitational field can generate large-scale zonal flows by means of a two-stream-like mechanism. This mechanism is revealed under the conditions when the Lighthill instability criterion is not satisfied. The text was submitted by the authors in English.     

Consistent ADD scenario with stabilized extra dimension

A model with one compact extra dimension and a scalar field of Brans–Dicke type in the bulk is discussed. It describes two branes with non-zero tension embedded into the space-time with flat background. This setup allows one to use a very simple method for stabilization of the size of extra dimension. It appears that the four-dimensional Planck mass is expressed only through parameters of the scalar field potentials on the branes.     

Correlation between the properties of a compound and the polynomial coefficients of a molecular Graph’s adjacency matrix

An additive scheme with 11 constants is derived from the coefficients of characteristic polynomials (CCPs) of adjacency matrix A of irregular molecular graphs (IMG) for molecules that contain a bivalent heteroatom -SH or -OH at the beginning of the chain. The structural significance of the CCPs to adjacency matrix A′ is established. Our formula is used to calculate the enthalpies of formation Δ_f H _{liq 298K} ^○ of liquid alkanethiols (mercaptanes) C _n H_{2n + 1}SH and Δ_f H _{liq 298K} ^○ of liquid saturated monoalcohols C _n H_{2n + 1}OH that remain unstudied experimentally.     

Hierarchy problem and the cosmological constant in a five-dimensional Brans-Dicke brane world model

We discuss a new solution, admitting the existence of dS ₄ branes, in five-dimensional Brans-Dicke theory. It is shown that, due to a special form of a bulk scalar field potential, for certain values of the model parameters the effective cosmological constant can be made small on the brane, where the hierarchy problem of gravitational interaction is solved. We also discuss new stabilization mechanism which is based on the use of auxiliary fields.     

Graph model for calculating the properties of saturated monoalcohols based on the additivity of energy terms

A 16-constant additive scheme was derived for calculating the physicochemical properties of saturated monoalcohols CH₄O-C₉H₂₀O and decomposing the triangular numbers of the Pascal triangle based on the similarity of subgraphs in the molecular graphs (MGs) of the homologous series of these alcohols. It was shown, using this scheme for calculation of properties of saturated monoalcohols as an example, that each coefficient of the scheme (in other words, the number of methods to impose a chain of a definite length i ₁, i ₂, … on a molecular graph) is the result of the decomposition of the triangular numbers of the Pascal triangle. A linear dependence was found within the adopted classification of structural elements. Sixteen parameters of the schemes were recorded as linear combinations of 17 parameters. The enthalpies of vaporization L _{298 K}⁰ of the saturated monoalcohols CH₄O-C₉H₂₀O, for which there were no experimental data, were calculated. It was shown that the parameters are not chosen randomly when using the given procedure for constructing an additive scheme by decomposing the triangular numbers of the Pascal triangle.     

Structure and properties of organic molecules. 1. Three-dimensional topological indices of alkanes

The Winer and Schultz three-dimensional topological indices of alkanes are considered and compared with ordinary two-dimensional indices. Methods of index design and details of calculations are discussed. Unlike two-dimensional indices, three-dimensional ones adequately reflect differences between both structural and rotational isomers. Regression analysis of property-index correlations for formation enthalpy, molar volume, evaporation heat, and boiling temperature is performed using various two- and three-parameter (linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and power) functions. The ability of three-dimensional indices to correlate with these properties is found to be as good as that of two-dimensional ones. Tver State University.
