Lax operator algebras for the root system G ₂, and arbitrary finite genus Riemann surfaces and Tyurin data on them are constructed.     

Tunable wakefield dielectric-filled accelerating structure

The feasibility of the frequency spectrum of Vavilov-Cherenkov radiation being controlled in a wakefield dielectric-filled accelerating structure via an outer ferroelectric layer is studied. The spectrum and amplitude of the field excited in the structure versus the permittivity of the ferroelectric are found. Dielectric losses in the ferroelectric are estimated. It is shown that these losses impose limitations on the ferroelectric layer thickness and the range within which the frequency spectrum of the waveguide can be controlled. The structure under consideration is optimized for the AWA wakefield accelerator. The multilayer construction of the waveguide, in combination with specially shaped ferroelectric-permittivity-controlling electrodes, allows designers to tune the spectrum of the waveguide and suppress electron-bunch-deflecting waveguide modes. Thereby, there appears the possibility of controlling the transverse stability of the beam.     

The contribution of the accreditation process to public administration: promotion of vital organizational changes

Accumulative evidence suggests that the implementation of international standard operating procedures, induce, by their virtues, major organizational changes. These changes are both cultural and behavioral including changes in decision-making processes, organizational norms, and values. The decision of any organization to adopt quality assurance, specifically via accreditation, should be regarded as a strategic one. As such, it prerequisites top management commitment, budgeting the process and promoting active inter-collaboration of all organizational members. The accreditation process according to ISO/IEC 17025:1999 of the Haifa Public Health Laboratory, will be used as a case study. A number of practical benefits of such organizational changes will be demonstrated and discussed, among them improved quality customer service and handling customer's complaints, establishing multichannel communication, enhanced interlaboratory collaboration and coordination. It is important to note that the accreditation process was accompaniment by extensive training of both management and employees on-site and off-site.

Anisotropic buckling patterns in spheroidal film/substrate systems and their implications in some natural and biological systems

We establish a quantitative mechanics framework of elastic buckling of a spheroidal thin film/substrate system, which is highly relevant to the morphologies of quite a few natural and biological systems. The anisotropic stress-driven bifurcation is governed by the ratios between the effective size/thickness, the equatorial/polar radii, and the substrate/film moduli. The possibilities of manipulating the undulations through external constraints, anisotropic growth/material properties, and substrate geometry/structure are discussed. Analytical equations correlating the undulation characteristics with the geometry/material properties are derived. The quantitative mechanics framework established herein not only has important implications on the morphogenesis of various fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, tissues, and animal body parts, but also could guide the three-dimensional micro-fabrications via controlled self-assembly on curved substrate surfaces.     

Filament-length-controlled elasticity in 3D fiber networks

We present a model for disordered 3D fiber networks to study their linear and nonlinear elasticity. In contrast to previous 2D models, these 3D networks with binary crosslinks are underconstrained with respect to fiber stretching elasticity, suggesting that bending may dominate their response. We find that such networks exhibit a bending-dominated elastic regime controlled by fiber length, as well as a crossover to a stretch-dominated regime for long fibers. Finally, by extending the model to the nonlinear regime, we show that these networks become intrinsically nonlinear with a vanishing linear response regime in the limit of flexible or long filaments.
