Directed flow of lambda hyperons in (2-6 )A GeV Au+Au collisions

Directed flow measurements for Lambda hyperons are presented and compared to those for protons produced in the same Au+Au collisions (2A, 4A, and 6A GeV; b<5-6 fm). The measurements indicate that Lambda hyperons flow consistently in the same direction but with smaller magnitudes. A strong positive flow [for Lambdas] has been predicted in calculations which include the influence of the Lambda-nucleon potential. The experimental flow ratio Lambda/p is in qualitative agreement with expectations (approximately 2/3) from the quark counting rule at 2A GeV but is found to decrease with increasing beam energy.     

Magnetoelectric effect in cobalt ferrite-barium titanate composites and their electrical properties

CoFe₂O₄-BaTiO₃ composites were prepared using conventional ceramic double sintering process with various compositions. Presence of two phases in the composites was confirmed using X-ray diffraction. The dc resistivity and thermoemf as a function of temperature in the temperature range 300 K to 600 K were measured. Variation of dielectric constant (ɛ′) with frequency in the range 100 Hz to 1 MHz and also with temperature at a fixed frequency of 1 kHz was studied. The ac conductivity was derived from dielectric constant (ɛ′) and loss tangent (tan δ). The nature of conduction is discussed on the basis of small polaron hopping model. The static value of magnetoelectric conversion factor has been studied as a function of magnetic field.     

On the static quadrupole moments of the 21 states in Te and Te

The reorientation effect in Coulomb excitation was used to measure the static quadrupole moments of the first 2⁺ states in ¹²⁶Te and ¹²⁸Te. The particle-γ coincidence technique using a large NaI(Tl) crystal was employed to measure relative excitation probabilities at backward and forward projectile scattering angles. The Winther-de Boer multiple Coulomb excitation program was used to analyze the data. The influence of the deorientation effect was also determined. For positive interference via the second 2⁺ state the extracted quadrupole moments of the first 2⁺ states are; −0.20±0.09 b and -0.24±0.08 b for ¹²⁶Te and ¹²⁸Te respectively. The quadrupole moments of the first 2⁺ states of^{122,124,126,128,130}Te determined by different techniques are in excellent agreement with one another. The values are compared with recent theoretical calculations.
