The ArNe-N2O van der Waals trimer: a high resolution spectroscopic study of its rotational spectrum,structure and dynamics

A new ternary van der Waals complex of the type rare gas-rare gas'-linear molecule, ArNe-N₂O, was investigated using a pulsed molecular beam cavity Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. The rotational spectra of six isotopomers of the trimer were studied in detail. These include Ar²⁰Ne-¹⁴N¹⁴NO, Ar²²Ne-¹⁴N¹⁴NO, Ar²⁰Ne-15N¹⁴NO, Ar²²Ne-¹⁵N¹⁴N0, Ar²⁰Ne-¹⁴N¹⁵NO and Ar²²Ne-¹⁴N¹⁵NO. Nuclear quadrupole hyperfine structures of the rotational transitions that are due to the one or two ¹⁴N nuclei were resolved and analysed. The resulting spectroscopic constants were used to provide structural and dynamical information about the trimer. Based on the quartic centrifugal distortion constants, a harmonic force field analysis was performed to estimate the frequencies of the van der Waals vibrational modes. A perturbation of the electronic charge distribution at the site of the central ¹⁴N nucleus of N²0 upon complex formation was detected and discussed. Differences of structural parameters of the trimer as compared to those of the respective dimer units are indicative of the presence of significant three-body non-additive contributions to the interaction energy.     

Broadly tunable compact continuous-wave Cr(2+):ZnS laser

We report the development of a continuous-wave, room-temperature Cr(2+) ZnS laser that is compact and tunable over 700 nm. The laser is pumped by a diode-pumped Er-fiber laser and generates 0.7 W of linearly polarized radiation at 2.35microm , at up to 40% slope efficiency. Cr(2+) ZnS directly diode-pumped at 1.6microm yields polarized radiation that is tunable over 400 nm at up to 25 mW of output power. A comparison of Cr(2+) ZnS with Cr ZnSe (70 mW, 350 nm) in a similar setup is given. As opposed to Cr ZnSe, the Cr ZnS laser is intrinsically polarized. Finally, we observe sensitization of the output radiation by a few milliwatts of the visible (470-500-nm) and near-infrared (740-770-nm) radiation.     

Robust chaos synchronization based on adaptive fuzzy delayed feedback ${\bf{\mathcal{H}}}_{\bf{\infty}}$ control

In this paper, we propose a new adaptive H_￥\mathcal H_\infty synchronization strategy, called an adaptive fuzzy delayed feedback H_￥\mathcal H_\infty synchronization (AFDFHS) strategy, for chaotic systems with uncertain parameters and external disturbances. Based on Lyapunov–Krasovskii theory, Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy model and adaptive delayed feedback H_￥\mathcal H_\infty control scheme, the AFDFHS controller is presented such that the synchronization error system is asymptotically stable with a guaranteed H_￥\mathcal{H}_{\infty } performance. It is shown that the design of the AFDFHS controller with adaptive law can be achieved by solving a linear matrix inequality (LMI), which can be easily facilitated by using some standard numerical packages. An illustrative example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed AFDFHS approach.     

Electronic structure of gadolinium calcium oxoborate

Gadolinium calcium oxoborate (GdCOB) is a nonlinear optical material that belongs to the calcium-rare-earth (R) oxoborate family, with general composition Ca₄RO(BO₃)₃ (R³⁺ = La, Sm, Gd, Lu, Y). X-ray photoemission was applied to study the valence band electronic structure and surface chemistry of this material. High resolution photoemission measurements on the valence band electronic structure and Gd 3d and 4d, Ca 2p, B 1s and O 1s core lines were used to evaluate the surface and near surface chemistry. These results provide measurements of the valence band electronic structure and surface chemistry of this rare-earth oxoborate.     

Nonlinear optical properties of LaCa(4)O(BO(3))(3)

We have grown LaCa(4)O (BO(3))(3) (LaCOB), an isostructural member of GdCa(4)O(BO(3))(3) (GdCOB) family and characterized its nonlinear optical properties. At 1064nm, d(eff) of 0.52+/-0.05 pm /V and an angular sensitivity of 1224+/-184(cm rad)(-1) for type I frequency doubling in LaCOB were determined relative to those of KTiOPO(4) , beta-BaB(2)O(4) , KD(2)PO(4) , LiB(3)O(5) , YCa(4)O(BO(3))(3) (YCOB), and GdCOB. The d(alphabetabeta) and d(gammabetabeta) coefficients of the nonlinear optical tensor for LaCOB, GdCOB, and YCOB were determined to be equivalent within the experimental uncertainty and have values of ?0.26+/-0.04?pm/V and ?1.69+/-0.17?pm /V , respectively. From phase-matching angle measurements at 1064 and 1047nm, we predict that LaCOB is noncritically phase matched at 1042+/-1.5 nm .     

Diode-pumped Nd:YVO(4)/Yb:S-FAP laser emitting at 985 and 492.5 nm

For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, Yb:S-FAP crystals have been intracavity pumped by a Nd:YVO(4) laser at 914 nm. This original pumping scheme allows efficient laser action on the three-level transition at 985 nm with 1.4 W output power. Second-harmonic generation is also presented with a total output power of 120 mW at 492.5 nm.
