Elastic π + p and π + π + scattering at LHC

We discuss the possibility of measuring leading neutron production at the LHC. These data could be used to extract from it π ⁺ p and π ⁺ π ⁺ cross sections. In this note we give some estimates for the case of elastic cross sections and discuss related problems and prospects.     

Investigation of diffractive processes with the CMS detector: New results

An experiment aimed at studying leading neutrons at LHC with the aid of the CMS detectors is proposed. Data of this experiments can be used to extract cross sections for π ⁺ p and π ⁺ π ⁺ scattering. Numerical estimates are presented for the proposed measurements.

Towards jetography

We propose an experiment at the LHC with leading neutron production. The latter can be used to extract from it the total π ⁺ p cross-sections. With two leading neutrons we can get access to the total π ⁺ π ⁺ cross-sections. In this note we give some estimates and discuss related problems and prospects.

Quark mass effects are analyzed at high Q² in the current fragmentation region of DIS. It is found that the linear combination F ₂ -2.75F ^c ₂ scales at large Q² and small x. We obtained a lower bound for the ratio F ^c ₂/F ₂ which lies very close to the data from HERA. Quark masses and specific scaling in deep-inelastic processes

Within an operator-product expansion, the problem of the quark-mass dependence of the heavy-flavor contribution to the structure function F ₂ in the current-fragmentation region is considered at high values of the momentum transfer squared Q ². A linear combination of the structure functions F ₂ ^c and F ₂ is found that possesses a specific scaling property for Q ² → ∞ at small fixed values of the Bjorken variable x. A lower bound on the ratio F ₂ ^c /F ₂ is calculated and is compared with data obtained at the HERA collider.     

The product of octahedra is badly approximated in the <Emphasis Type="Italic">ℓ</Emphasis><Subscript>2,1</Subscript>-metric

We prove that the Cartesian product of octahedra B _1,∞ ^n,m = B ₁ ⁿ ×···× B ₁ ⁿ (m factors) is poorly approximated by spaces of half dimension in the mixed norm: d _N/2(B _1,∞ ^n,m , ? _2,1 ^n,m ) ≥ cm, N = mn. As a corollary, we find the order of linear widths of the Hölder–Nikol’skii classes H _p ^r (T ^d ) in the metric of L _q in certain domains of variation of the parameters (p, q).
