The Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP accident contaminated the soil of densely-populated regions in Fukushima Prefecture with radioactive cesium, which poses significant risks of internal and external exposure to the residents. If we apply the knowledge of post-Chernobyl accident studies, internal exposures in excess of a few mSv/y would be expected to be frequent in Fukushima.Extensive whole-body-counter surveys (n = 32,811) carried out at the Hirata Central Hospital between October, 2011 and November, 2012, however show that the internal exposure levels of residents are much lower than estimated. In particular, the first sampling-bias-free assessment of the internal exposure of children in the town of Miharu, Fukushima, shows that the 137Cs body burdens of all children (n = 1,383, ages 6–15, covering 95% of children enrolled in town-operated schools) were below the detection limit of 300 Bq/body in the fall of 2012. These results are not conclusive for the prefecture as a whole, but are consistent with results obtained from other municipalities in the prefecture, and with prefectural data.  相似文献

The first objective data showing the geographical locations of people in Fukushima after the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident, obtained by an analysis of GPS (Global Positioning System)-enabled mobile phone logs, are presented. The method of estimation is explained, and the flow of people into and out of the 20 km evacuation zone during the accident is visualized.  相似文献

We studied the methanol adsorption behavior of Pt nanoparticles that were vacuum-deposited on a TiO(2)(110) surface at room temperature by using an ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) scanning tunneling microscope (STM). A large number of bright spots were observed on fivefold-coordinated Ti (Ti(5c)) rows of the TiO(2)(110) surface after exposure of the Pt/TiO(2)(110) to methanol vapor. We assigned the bright spots to methoxy species. These were mobile and were found to hop along the Ti(5c) rows. In situ time-resolved STM observations of the formation and migration of the bright spots on the Pt/TiO(2)(110) were carried out in the presence of methanol. The bright spots were produced at the periphery of the Pt nanoparticles and migrated to the substrate Ti(5c) rows. We discuss the spillover process and behavior of the methoxy species on the Pt/TiO(2)(110).  相似文献

The effect of the electrostatic attractive force between giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) and the SiO2 surface on the formation of a Ca2+-free supported lipid bilayer (SLB) was investigated by atomic force microscopy and fluorescence microscopy. When negatively charged GUVs were incubated for 1 h without Ca2+, the surface coverage of lipid bilayer was <1% on the SiO2 surface. In contrast, a high coverage was obtained without addition of Ca2+ on the positively charged surface modified by aminopropyldimethylethoxysilane, and the coverage of SLBs decreased with increasing KCl concentrations. The thickness of the water layer under SLB was reduced by modification of APS.  相似文献

The ASACUSA (the Atomic Spectroscopy And Collisions Using Slow Antiprotons) collaboration is planning to measure the cross sections of antiproton annihilations at kinetic energy 100 keV on targets of various mass numbers (C,?Ni, Sn, and Pt) using the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) of CERN. No previous measurement exists in this region where the A-dependence of the cross section is expected to deviate from the A $^{\frac{2}{3}}$ (Batty et al, Nucl Phys A 689:721, 2001) as reported by the Obelix collaboration. A beam profile monitor based on secondary electron emission with a grid of electrode pads fabricated on an FR4-type glass-epoxy circuit board was developed for this measurement. The advantage of this kind of detector is that it is simple, lightweight, and low cost. It was used to measure the spatial profile of 100-ns-long beam pulses containing > 6 × 104 antiprotons with an active area of 40?mm?× 40 mm and a spatial resolution of 4 mm.  相似文献

BABYSCAN, a whole-body counter (WBC) for small children was developed in 2013, and units have been installed at three hospitals in Fukushima Prefecture. Between December, 2013 and March, 2015, 2707 children between the ages of 0 and 11 have been scanned, and none had detectable levels of radioactive cesium. The minimum detectable activities (MDAs) for 137Cs were ≤3.5 Bq kg−1 for ages 0–1, decreasing to ≤2 Bq kg−1 for ages 10–11. Including the 134Cs contribution, these translate to a maximum committed effective dose of ∼16 µSv y−1 even for newborn babies, and therefore the internal exposure risks can be considered negligibly small.Analysis of the questionnaire filled out by the parents of the scanned children regarding their families’ food and water consumption revealed that the majority of children residing in the town of Miharu regularly consume local or home-grown rice and vegetables, while in Minamisoma, a majority avoid tap water and produce from Fukushima. The data show, however, no correlation between consumption of locally produced food and water and the children’s body burdens.  相似文献

An artificial cell membrane that is composed of bilayer lipid membranes (BLMs) with transmembrane proteins incorporated within them represents a well‐defined system for the analysis of membrane proteins, especially ion channel proteins that are major targets for drug design. Because the BLM system has a high compatibility with recently developed cell‐free expression systems, it has attracted attention as a next‐generation drug screening system. However, three issues associated with BLM systems, i. e., their instability, the need for non‐volatile organic solvents and a low efficiency of ion channel incorporation, have limited their use as a drug screening platform. In this personal account, we discuss our recent approaches to address these issues based on microfabrication. We also discuss the potential for using the BLM system combined with cell‐free expression systems as a drug screening system for future personalized medicine.  相似文献

Recently, lipid bilayers supported on solid substrates are considered to offer potential as biological devices utilizing biological membranes and membrane proteins. In particular, artificially patterned supported bilayers hold great promise for the development of biological devices. In this study, we show control of the formation and location of phase-separated domain structures by light irradiation for gel phase and liquid-crystalline phase separation structures in a DMPC-DOPC binary lipid bilayer tagged with dye molecules on SiO2/Si substrates. Upon light irradiation, the gel phase domain structures disappeared from the phase-separated bilayers. This disappearance indicates that the light irradiation causes a local increase in the temperature of the lipid bilayer. In this disappearance phenomenon, the photoinduced activation of dye lipids, e.g. fluorescent lipids, is considered to play an important role, since the same phenomenon does not occur in lipid bilayers that have a low concentration of dye lipids. Thus, the local increase in temperature is propagated by light absorption of the dye lipid and subsequent photoinduced activation of nonradiative molecular vibrations. Subsequent interruption of the photoinduced activation for molecular motion allowed the gel phase domain structures to precipitate and grow again. Moreover, the domain area fraction remaining after the photoinduced activation was higher than that before the photoinduced activation. This result indicates that the local increase in temperature propagated by dye-excitation enhances formation of the gel phase domains. By utilizing this phenomenon, we could preferentially induce formation of domain structures within the light-irradiated regions. This technique could be the basis for a new patterning technique based on domain structures. Moreover, these domain structure patterns can be eliminated by increasing the temperature, allowing rewritable patterning.  相似文献
