By numerically solving the system of Maxwell–Bloch equations, we have examined theoretically collisions of extremely short single-cycle and unipolar subcycle pulses in a nonlinear resonant medium under conditions that the light interacts coherently with the medium. The dynamics of the electric field of structures of light-induced polarization and inversion difference has been considered in the situation in which pulses are overlapped in the medium. We show that the states of the medium (to the right and to the left of the overlap region of the pulses) may differ. In particular, we show that polarization waves with different characteristics can exist in the regions of the medium that are located on opposite sides of the overlap region of the pulses. These waves travel in different directions and have different spatial frequencies.  相似文献

The possibility of generation of quasi-unipolar extremely short pulses (with a duration of several periods of field oscillations) is theoretically analyzed for the excitation of a circular, nonlinear, and resonant medium with a light spot. The light spot rotates along a circle with a velocity that exceeds the speed of light in vacuum, while particles of the medium are distributed uniformly along the circle. It is shown that, by introducing a delay in the form of a phase plate into the system, one can control the shape, the duration, and the amplitude of generated pulses.  相似文献

Localized structures forming in the bistable regimes in a chain of weakly coupled split ring resonators, which are the building blocks of a nonlinear magnetic metamaterial, where electric current is generated by external electromagnetic radiation, have been studied analytically and numerically. The hysteresis of the velocity of switching waves (fronts) has been revealed and discrete dissipative solitons have been found.  相似文献

Methods recently proposed for generating unipolar pulses in nonlinear media in terahertz and optical electromagnetic ranges are reviewed. Such pulses have nonzero “electric area” (time integral of the field strength over the entire duration of a pulse) and, correspondingly, a significant component of the field with zero frequency, thus exhibiting quasistatic properties. Effective generation of unipolar pulses would allow, e.g., transferring mechanical momentum to charged particles and, thereby, controlling the motion of wave packets of matter, which can be useful for compact accelerators of charged particles and for other applications.  相似文献

The study is directed to the improving of proton-conducting Nafion-type membranes for using in fuel cells with direct oxidation of liquid fuels. Nanometer-thick layer of polyaniline (in its conducting emerald-dine form) was deposited onto the membrane surface by in situ polymerization. The structure of the polyaniline layer is studied, as well as the properties of thus modified membranes (electronic and proton conduction, permeability for methanol, thermal stability). A method of platinum catalyst deposition onto the Nafion-modifying polyaniline layer is developed.  相似文献

A determination of sin2 θ w based on measurements of elastic scattering of muon-neutrinos and muon-anti-neutrinos on atomic electrons is described. These purely leptonic processes were studied using the CHARM calorimeter exposed to neutrino and antineutrino wide-band beams at the CERN super proton synchrotron. A total of 83±16 neutrino-electron and 112±21 antineutrino-electron events have been detected. From the measurement of the ratio of muon-neutrino and muon-antineutrino cross-sections a value of sin2 θ w =0.211±0.037 was obtained.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of a soliton collider (a wide-aperture laser with saturable absorption and variable length of the cavity) are performed. The presence of the cavity length gradient in a part of the aperture allows one to accelerate the laser soliton up to noticeable values of the transverse velocity. As a result, it becomes possible to implement a high-energy collision of the soliton with another laser soliton located in the other part of the aperture where the length of the cavity is constant. Different scenarios are presented for the strong interaction of colliding laser solitons with different topological charges.  相似文献
