Using Fickett’s model for reactive compressible flows, i.e., the reactive form of Burgers’ equation, we address the problem of shock induced ignition by a piston in a reactive medium characterized by a 2 step induction-reaction kinetics. Owing to the model’s simplicity, the ignition and acceleration mechanism is explained using the two families of characteristics admitted by the model. The energy release along the particle paths provides the amplification of forward-traveling pressure waves. These waves pre-compress the medium in the induction layer ahead of the reaction zone, therefore changing the induction delays of successive particles. The variation of the induction delay provides the modulation of the amplification of the forward traveling pressure waves by controlling the residence time of the pressure waves in the reaction zone. A closed form analytical solution is obtained by the method of characteristics and high activation energy asymptotics. The acceleration of the reaction zone was found to be proportional to the product of the activation energy, the ratio of the induction to reaction time and the heat release. This finding provides a theoretical justification for the previous use of this non-dimensional number to characterize the ignition regimes observed experimentally in detonations and shock induced ignition phenomena. Numerical simulations are presented and analyzed. Both subsonic and supersonic internal flame propagation are observed, consistent with experiment and previous reactive Euler models.  相似文献

Proficiency testing is among the most methods to assess the accuracy of the analytical data produced by laboratories. The results presented in this paper show the performance of the laboratory for three intercomparisons organized by Radionuclide Metrology Laboratory (RML) and by IAEA, in which SALMROM laboratory have participated in three consecutive years. The feedbacks from the final reports from RML and IAEA demonstrate the performance of the laboratory where 34 out of 39 pass all acceptance criteria of the test. The rest of five results which failed served to improve the laboratory analysis and to optimize accuracy measurements. The overall results of the proficiency tests point out the reliability and traceability of the gamma spectrometry system used for environmental measurements.  相似文献

Knowing the low-frequency response of hydrophones, down to 100 kHz at least, is important for accurate biomedical ultrasound measurements. However, current international standards do not extend below 500 kHz. Furthermore, commercial hydrophone sources typically do not supply sensitivity data below 1-2 MHz. Therefore, to help identify and validate practical calibration methods below 2 MHz, the authors have extended their previous individual efforts in an interlaboratory evaluation of sensitivity calibration using the swept-frequency technique, time delay spectrometry (TDS). Calibrations were performed for needle and membrane PVDF hydrophones using each laboratory's TDS system. Each site employed the same purpose-built broadband source transducers, comprising both plano-concave and biconcave 1-3 piezocomposite elements 4 cm in diameter, with maximum and minimum thicknesses of approximately 1.5 and 0.1 cm. Agreement between laboratories was within the estimated measurement precision of +/-0.6 dB. The results demonstrated that a TDS system employing such transducers constitutes a viable method for hydrophone calibrations in this frequency range.  相似文献

To facilitate the implementation and verification of the new ultrasound hydrophone calibration techniques described in the companion paper (somewhere in this issue) a nonlinear propagation model was developed. A brief outline of the theoretical considerations is presented and the model's advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The results of simulations yielding spatial and temporal acoustic pressure amplitude are also presented and compared with those obtained using KZK and Field II models. Excellent agreement between all models is evidenced. The applicability of the model in discrete wideband calibration of hydrophones is documented in the companion paper somewhere in this volume.  相似文献

An enhancement of the resistance due to the presence of only one or two isolated domain walls is clearly evidenced by transport measurements in 35 nm epitaxial Co wires, 20 &mgr;m long. The deduced relative change in the resistivity is at least 1 order of magnitude larger than the one predicted from a model based on the mixing of spin channels occurring over the length scale of the domain wall width [P. M. Levy and S. Zhang, Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 5110 (1997)]. This inconsistency can be resolved by taking the effect of spin accumulation into account, which scales in the case of Co over the much larger distance of the spin diffusion length.  相似文献

Multiblock ethylene‐1‐butene copolymers (PEB‐n) with graded ethylene content (where n is the number of ethyl branches per 100 backbone carbons) represent efficient cold filter plugging point (CFPP) depressants for crude oils and middle distillates. The aggregation behavior and the interaction with wax molecules of a tetrablock PEB‐2.6/PEB‐6.0/PEB‐10.9/PEB‐13.2 and triblock PEB‐6.5/PEB‐8.9/PEB‐10.1 copolymers in decane solutions were investigated over a wide temperature range by combining different small‐angle neutron scattering techniques and optical microscopy. The experimental results revealed in the decrease of temperature formation and evolution of multisized structural levels showing a hierarchical organization on the length scale from 1 nm up to 10 μm. One‐dimensional polymer aggregates arising as initial structures associate and branch that lead to the occurrence of complex macroaggregates with diffusive interfaces and sizes of several microns. The one‐dimensional copolymer structure shows longitudinal density modulation and micellar‐like substructures in neat polymer solutions. When wax is added, this structure becomes more homogeneous in decrease of temperature as a consequence of the cocrystallization of wax and copolymer. The wax crystallization in board‐like objects of much smaller size than required by the CFPP criterion of oil and refinery industry (filter mesh size of 45 μm) is templated and controlled by the assembling features of the crystalline–amorphous PEB‐n multiblock copolymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Shear banding occurs in the flow of complex fluids: various types of shear thinning and shear thickening micelle solutions and liquid crystals. In order to cope with the strongly inhomogeneous interface between the bands, constitutive models used in standard rheology must be supplemented by non-local terms. This leads rather generally to non-linear partial differential equations of the reaction-diffusion type. We evaluate the effect of boundary layer losses on two-dimensional H2/O2/Ar cellular detonations obtained in narrow channels. The experiments provide the details of the cellular structure and the detonation speed deficits from the ideal CJ speed. We model the effect of the boundary layer losses by incorporating the flow divergence in the third dimension due to the negative boundary layer displacement thickness, modeled using Mirels’ theory. The cellular structures obtained numerically with the resulting quasi-2D formulation of the reactive Euler equations with two-step chain-branching chemistry are found in excellent agreement with experiment, both in terms of cell dynamics and velocity deficits, provided the boundary layer constant of Mirels is modified by a factor of 2. A significant increase in the cell size is found with increasing velocity deficit. This is found to be very well captured by the induction zone increase in slower detonations due to the lower temperatures in the induction zone.  相似文献

Studies and evaluations of the main parameters of a high resolution multi-chamber alpha spectrometer and its full calibration using standard sources of 241Am, 233U and 244Cm are presented for the validation of the complex method of characterization of an alpha spectrometer dedicated for alpha radioactive concentration measurements of various environmental samples. The resolution and efficiency were determined at all possible source-detector distances for all eight solid state ORTEC ULTRA-AS detectors. In addition, the solid angles associated to different measurement geometries and the repeatability of the results were assessed. A detailed inter-comparison of the results was performed drawing important conclusions regarding the quality of the alpha detector response to the alpha radiation of the standard sources used in measurements.  相似文献
