We derive the formalism to obtain spatial distributions of collisional correlation times for macroscopic particles undergoing granular flow from pulsed gradient spin echo nuclear magnetic resonance diffusion data. This is demonstrated with an example of axial motion in the shear flow regime of a 3D granular flow in a horizontal rotating cylinder at one rotation rate.  相似文献

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) employs Ge and Si detectors to search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) via their elastic-scattering interactions with nuclei while discriminating against interactions of background particles. CDMS data, accounting for the neutron background, give limits on the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon elastic-scattering cross section that exclude unexplored parameter space above 10 GeV/c2 WIMP mass and, at >75% C.L., the entire 3sigma allowed region for the WIMP signal reported by the DAMA experiment.  相似文献

The structure of the halo nucleus 11Be has been studied using the reaction 9Be(11Be,10Be+gamma)X at 60 MeV/nucleon. The ground state structure of 11Be is determined by comparing the experimental cross sections to a calculation combining spectroscopic factors from the shell model with l-dependent single-particle cross sections obtained in an eikonal model. This experiment shows the dominant 1s single-particle character of the 11Be ground state and indicates a small contribution of 0d admixture in the wave function. After correction for the approximately 22% intensity to excited levels, a clean and precise distribution of parallel momentum for knockout from the 1s halo wave function is obtained for the first time.  相似文献

Projectile fragmentation provides radioactive beams at intermediate velocities (v/c = 0.3-0.5) by physical means of fragment separation. With the development of position-sensitive photon detectors it has become possible to measure the energies and directions of photons emitted in-flight from such fast-moving exotic beams. This allows the reconstruction of the photons' energies emitted from an exotic projectile with high accuracy. It can be advantageous to employ photon detection in experiments with exotic beams since photons can traverse matter easily and their attenuation can be calculated. Experiments with standard luminosities can be carried out at intermediate beam energies with thick secondary targets (order of g/cm2) and very low incident beam rates (order of particle/s or less). Experimental success in this field is strongly correlated with the development of photon detectors such as position-sensitive scintillation detectors or segmented germanium detectors. In-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy of fast exotic beams has been successfully used at all projectile fragmentation facilities in intermediate-energy heavy-ion inelastic scattering experiments, knockout reactions and fragmentation reactions. Here, we focus on experimental results for neutron-rich exotic nuclei in the π(sd )-shell. Measurements and detector developments carried out at the NSCL at Michigan State University during the last four years are discussed. Received: 1 May 2001 / Accepted: 4 December 2001  相似文献

We report on direct experimental evidence of the population of the 3/23/2 intruder state in 27Ne in the knockout of a single neutron from the ground state of 28Ne. This low-lying negative parity state is consistent with a narrower shell gap for exotic nuclei with Z?NZ?N and N≈20N20. Monte Carlo shell-model calculations with the modern SDPF-M interaction successfully describe neutron-rich nuclei in the vicinity of N=20N=20 where normal and intruder configurations coexist at low excitation energy. This observation demonstrates the importance of direct reactions for the study of exotic nuclei and the predictive power of these large-scale shell-model calculations.  相似文献

We measured the strength of the 0(+)(gs)-->2(+)(1) excitations in the radioactive mirror nuclei 32Ar and 32Si using the techniques of intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation for 32Ar and inelastic proton scattering in inverse kinematics for 32Si. The 32Ar measurement, taken together with previously existing Coulomb excitation data for 32Si, yields the isoscalar and isovector multipole matrix elements for the 0(+)(1)-->2(+)(1) transition between T = 2 states in the A = 32 system. The proton scattering measurement for 32Si, when combined with the Coulomb excitation data for this nucleus, yields a ratio of neutron and proton matrix elements, M(n)/M(p), for 32Si.  相似文献
