Chloroacetaldehyde reacts with viral M13mp18 single and double stranded DNA to form the highly fluorescent adducts, etheno-AMP and etheno-CMP.

Absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy can be used to monitor and characterize these reactions. Both single and double stranded DNA showed increases in the absorbance following reaction with the aldehyde. The fluorescence also increased in these two groups and continued to rise with increasing time of incubation until a point of saturation was reached. The fluorescence of the double stranded moiety was considerably enhanced following reaction with the aldehyde while that of the single stranded population was not, making this method appropriate for the separation of small quantities of the two populations of DNA.  相似文献

We theoretically demonstrate that, for a given diameter of the core-pumped metal-dielectric nanowire, there is an optimum thickness of the metallic cladding that provides the maximum propagation length of the lowest-order surface plasmon polariton (SPP) modes. If the nanowire is fabricated with the optimum cladding thickness, the lowest pumping power is required to fully compensate for the SPP propagation losses. We also show that a strong confinement of SPPs within the nanowire can be achieved, but at the expense of either high optical gains or large nanowire diameters. For example, a gain of 565 cm(-1) would suffice to make up for the decay of SPPs in a 250-nm-thick silver-GaAs nanowire; the confinement of optical power within such nanowires exceeds 90%, which makes them ideal interconnects for nanophotonic circuitry.  相似文献

This paper investigates uncertainties in complex supply chain situations and proposes a fuzzy-based decision support model for determining the chance of meeting on-time delivery in a complex supply chain environment. It integrates fuzzy logic principles and unitary structure-based supply chain model and enables addressing uncertainties associated with key inputs of on-time delivery performance for effective decision making process. The proposed pragmatic model deals with the fuzziness of the key inputs including, variations in demand forecasting, materials shortages and distribution lead time, and combines a fuzzy reasoning approach for monitoring on-time delivery of finished products. In systematically dealing with the uncertainties of complex supply chains, this model supports the minimizing of business losses that result from penalties and customer dissatisfaction, and the consequent reduced market share. Application of the proposed model is illustrated using a textile industry case study.  相似文献

Selecting a cost optimum subset of discrete-value dispersion compensation modules (DV-DCMs) subject to maximum module count from an available set of DV-DCMs is a NP-hard problem. We present the first (to our knowledge) exact dispersion relation for the transverse-magnetic surface plasmon polariton (SPP) modes of a plasmonic slot waveguide, which is formed by a nonlinear Kerr medium sandwiched between two metallic slabs. The obtained relation is then simplified to the case of small field intensities, while retaining nonlinear terms, to derive approximate dispersion equations for the symmetric and antisymmetric SPP modes.  相似文献

We previously demonstrated that Mie scattering of stationary partially coherent light by dielectric spheres generates coherence vortices. In this Letter, we demonstrate that a lattice of coherence vortices can be generated by Mie scattering of partially coherent electromagnetic waves by a system of three coplanar dielectric spheres. Spontaneous coherence-vortex creation and destruction is observed in our computer modeling of this system.  相似文献

We revisit the problem of the optimization of a silicon-nanocrystal (Si-NC) waveguide, aiming to attain the maximum field confinement inside its nonlinear core and to ensure optimal waveguide performance for a given mode power. Using a Si-NC/SiO2 slot waveguide as an example, we show that the common definition of the effective mode area may lead to significant errors in estimation of optical intensity governing the nonlinear optical response and, as a result, to poor strength evaluation of the associated nonlinear effects. A simple and physically meaningful definition of the effective mode area is given to relate the total mode power to the average field intensity inside the nonlinear region and is employed to study the optimal parameters of Si-NC slot waveguides.  相似文献
