Synthesis, characterization and antifungal activity of copper (II) complexes of sterically hindered o-diphenol derivatives

Cu (II) complexes with 3,5-di(tert-butyl)-1,2-benzenediol (I), 4,6-di(tert-butyl)-1,2,3-benzentriol (II) and sulfur-containing sterically hindered o-diphenol derivatives such as 4,6-di(tert-butyl)-3-(2-hydroxyethylsulfanyl)-1,2-benzenediol (III) and 2-[4,6-di(tert-butyl)-2,3-dihydroxyphenylsulfanyl]acetic acid (IV) have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analysis, TG/DTA, FT-IR, ESR, XPS, XPD and conductivity measurements. Antifungal activities of these ligands and their respective Cu (II) complexes have been determined against Aspergillus niger, Fusarium sp., Penicillium lividum, Mucor sp. and Botrytis cinerea. Most of the compounds (both the free ligands and the complexes) exert pronounced antifungal activities (RI  70%), and virtually all of them (apart from the Cu(L^II)₂ complex) have the highest inhibitory properties (RI = 100%) against B. cinerea.     

Copper (II) complexes of sterically hindered o-diphenol derivatives: synthesis, characterization and microbiological studies

Cu (II) complexes with the sterically hindered diphenol derivatives 3,5-di(tert-butyl)-1,2-benzenediol (I), 4,6-di(tert-butyl)-1,2,3-benzenetriol (II) and the sulfur-containing 4,6-di(tert-butyl)-3-(2-hydroxyethylsulfanyl)-1,2-benzenediol (III) and 2-[4,6-di(tert-butyl)-2,3-dihydroxyphenylsulfanyl]acetic acid (IV) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, TG/DTA, FT-IR, ESR, XPS, XPD and conductivity measurements. Compounds I–III can coordinate in their singly deprotonated forms and act as bidentate ligands. These compounds yield Cu (II) complexes of the stoichiometry Cu(L)₂, which have square planar geometry (g_| > g_⊥ > g_e). Unlike them, compound IV behaves as a terdentate ligand, and its complex Cu(L^IV)₂ has distorted octahedral geometry. According to ESR data, only the Cu(L^II)₂ complex contains a very small amount of phenoxyl radicals. Antimicrobial activities of these ligands and their respective Cu (II) complexes have been determined with respect to Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as on yeasts. Their phytotoxic properties against Chlorella vulgaris 157 were also examined.

Photochemical,thermal, and thermocatalytic reactions of diphenyldiazomethane with dimethyl thiophosphite

Conclusions The direct photolysis of diphenyldiazomethane in dimethyl thiophosphite gave the product of P-H insertion. The thermal reaction leads to the N-dimethoxythiophosphorylhydrazone of benzophenone and O,O-dimethyl S-(diphenylmethyl) thiophosphate. Phosphorinane and Enol Rings in One Molecule. Evidence for Reciprocal Stabilization of Half-Chair Conformations

Abstract.

The X-ray crystal structure of 2-(2′,4′-dioxo-3′-pentyl)-5,5-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane (2) reveals significant half-chair distortion of the axially oriented cisenol ring. The molecule also undergoes in-plane deformations. R(O...O) = 2.410 Å in the enol moiety indicates a very strong hydrogen bonding. The enol content, δ_OH and thermodynamic parameters for the axial-equatorial conformational and keto-enol equilibriums were obtained from ¹H, ³¹P NMR and IR measurements in comparison with the planar 4,6-dimethyl isomer (1) containing equatorially oriented enol ring. The X-ray single crystal structure of 5,5-dimethyl-2-(methoxycarbonyl-3′-oxo-2′-butyl)-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane (3) reveals the unusual half-chair conformation of the dioxaphosphorinane cycle disposed a trans-enol ring substituent. ¹H, ³¹P NMR and IR solution data support the same structure displays a strong conformational preference while the minor forms are chair conformers with an axial or equatorial cis-enol ring.     

Diazoalkanes in the Reactions with Dialkyl (Thio)-Phosphites

Abstract

The photochemical, thermo-catalytical and thermal reactions of diazoalkanes with dialkyl (thio)phosphites were studied.

Thus, the photolysis of dimethyldiazomalonate and methyl-diazoacetate with dialkyl(thio)phosphites gives P-H insertion products only upon triplet-sensitized conditions (i), whereas diphenyldiazomethane gives P-H insertion products upon direct photolysis as well (ii). The investigation of 31 the reaction mechanism is based on CIDNP ³¹P method. The catalytical reactions (iii) are a convenient method of preparing (thio)phosphonates.     

Radiation source for medical X-ray examination,based on the use of electron radiation during channeling in crystals

One of the possible applications of relativistic electron radiation during channeling in crystals, i.e., the use of radiation for medical visualization, is considered.A setup scheme is proposed, the results of numerical simulation of electron dynamics in crystals and radiation generation and the results of calculations of dose loads are presented.
