The wavelength dependence of the quadratic hyperpolarizability of 11 nm diam gold nanoparticles, is reported as measured by hyper Rayleigh scattering. An important photoluminescence background underlying the hyper Rayleigh signal is observed, a contribution attributed to radiative electron-hole recombinations following multiphoton excitation favored by adsorbed organic compound like citrate on the surface of the nanoparticles. The absolute value of the quadratic hyperpolarizability of gold spherical nanoparticles is determined and a strong enhancement is observed for harmonic frequencies in resonance with the dipolar surface plasmon excitation. No contribution of the interband transition is observed. The absolute values reported, beta(C)=5.1x10(-26) esu at the second harmonic energy 2.39 eV, have been measured with femtosecond long laser pulse, and are 1 order of magnitude weaker that the one previously reported with nanosecond long pulses. This difference can be related to similar measurements performed on the second order hyperpolarizability of gold nanoparticles and may be attributed to different electronic relaxation regimes. Finally, the spectrum of the quadratic hyperpolarizability is compared to the theoretically expected one.  相似文献

We report the use of the nonlinear optical technique of hyper-Rayleigh scattering to investigate the interaction of the cationic probe molecule crystal violet with micelles of sodium dodecyl sulfate. An absolute value of (847 +/- 80) x 10(-30) esu is measured at the fundamental wavelength of 870 nm for the molecular hyperpolarizability of crystal violet free in pure aqueous solutions. In aqueous solutions of sodium dodecyl sulfate, above and below the critical micelle concentration, the measured hyperpolarizability of crystal violet is weaker than in the solution free of sodium dodecyl sulfate. From the comparison with linear optical photoabsorption spectroscopy data, this difference is attributed to electrostatic interactions between the cationic crystal violet molecules and the negatively charged sodium dodecyl sulfate surfactant molecules present in excess. Polarization resolved hyper-Rayleigh scattering measurements are then performed to show that, below and above the critical micelle concentration, crystal violet molecules also undergo symmetry changes upon interaction with sodium dodecyl sulfate. Above the critical micelle concentration, the minimum fraction of micelles interacting with at least one CV molecule is estimated. For instance, for a crystal violet aqueous concentration of 150 microM, this fraction is larger than 7%.  相似文献

We report the experimental proof of molecular count rate enhancement (up to 6.5-fold) and lifetime reduction for single fluorescent molecules diffusing in subwavelength apertures milled in aluminum films. The observed enhancement dependence with the aperture diameter agrees qualitatively with numerical electromagnetic computations of the excitation power density into the aperture volume.  相似文献

We report the optical second harmonic (SH) response from gold core-silver shell nanoparticles supported at a liquid-liquid interface in the spectral region where the second harmonic generation (SHG) frequency is resonant with the surface plasmon (SP) resonance excitation of the nanoparticles. We compare these results with that obtained by classical linear optical absorption spectroscopy and show that the nonlinear optical response is dominated by the SP resonance enhancement with negligible contributions from the interband transitions. As a result, the SH spectrum exhibits two clear SP resonance bands attributed to the two SP resonances of the composite nanostructure formed by the gold core-silver shell nanoparticles. Absolute values of the hyperpolarizabilities are measured by hyper Rayleigh scattering (HRS) and compared that of pure gold nanoparticles. The hyperpolarizability measured at a harmonic energy of 3.0 eV, enhanced through excitation of the high energy SP resonance of the nanoparticle, increases with the silver content whereas the hyperpolarizability measured at a harmonic energy of 2.4 eV, enhanced through the excitation of the low energy SP resonance of the nanoparticle, decreases because of the shift of this resonance away from the harmonic frequency. The hyperpolarizability determined by HRS and the square root of the SHG intensities, scaling with the nanoparticle hyperpolarizability, have similar trends with respect to the silver content indicative of closely related adsorption properties yielding similar surface concentrations at the liquid-liquid interface.  相似文献

We have designed photonic crystal suspended membranes with optimized optical and mechanical properties for cavity optomechanics. Such resonators sustain vibration modes in the megahertz range with quality factors of a few thousand. Thanks to a two-dimensional square lattice of holes, their reflectivity at normal incidence at 1064?nm reaches values as high as 95%. These two features, combined with the very low mass of the membrane, open the way to the use of such periodic structures as deformable end mirrors in Fabry-Perot cavities for the investigation of cavity optomechanical effects.  相似文献

We consider level-set percolation for the Gaussian free field on ${\mathbb{Z}^{d}}$ , d ≥ 3, and prove that, as h varies, there is a non-trivial percolation phase transition of the excursion set above level h for all dimensions d ≥ 3. So far, it was known that the corresponding critical level h *(d) satisfies h *(d) ≥ 0 for all d ≥ 3 and that h *(3) is finite, see Bricmont et al. (J Stat Phys 48(5/6):1249–1268, 1987). We prove here that h *(d) is finite for all d ≥ 3. In fact, we introduce a second critical parameter h **h *, show that h **(d) is finite for all d ≥ 3, and that the connectivity function of the excursion set above level h has stretched exponential decay for all h > h **. Finally, we prove that h * is strictly positive in high dimension. It remains open whether h * and h ** actually coincide and whether h * > 0 for all d ≥ 3.  相似文献

Integrated molecular orbital-molecular orbital (IMOMO) calculations on 17 short disulfide-bridged peptides (up to 16 residues, with at most five intraloop residues) were performed to elucidate some factors controlling their electron capture. These illustrative systems display contrasted behaviors, shedding light on several criteria of differentiation: size, shape, and rigidity of the disulfide-linking loop, intramolecular hydrogen bonds, etc. The geometrical malleability of disulfide radical anions, whose existence and role as intermediate have been evidenced, is discussed. The disulfide elongation (by ca. 0.7 A) upon electron capture induces "soft" structural damages for these turn structures, with a weakening or cleavage of vicinal hydrogen bond(s). On the basis of a series of six Cys-Alan-Cys peptides, it is proposed that electron affinity reflects the topological frustration of these short and highly constrained structures. Results for a series of amino acid mutations are analyzed for the Cys-Xxx-Yyy-Cys motif, common to redox enzymes of the thioredoxin superfamily.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of reconstructing partially observed stochastic processes. The L1 convergence of the filtering and smoothing densities in state space models is studied, when the transition and emission densities are estimated using non parametric kernel estimates.
