An analytical solution to the one-dimensional (plane waves) nonintegrable problem of interaction (collision) of a dark soliton with a cnoidal wave (control and information signals with orthogonal circular polarizations) in an isotropic gyrotropic medium with Kerr nonlinearity and second-order groupvelocity dispersion is obtained in the adiabatic approximation. The asymptotic behavior of the obtained solution is considered. It is shown that the role of the control signal is reduced to strong amplitude and frequency modulation, which is localized only in the region of variation in the control signal intensity.  相似文献

We use tools of the equilibrium statistical mechanics of disordered systems to study analytically the statistical properties of an ecosystem composed of N species interacting via random mutual interactions, as well as via deterministic self-interactions of order p>/=2. We show that the main effect of increasing the order of the interactions among the species is to make the system less competitive, in the sense that the fraction of extinct species is greatly reduced. In addition, we find that for p>2 there is a threshold value which gives a lower bound to the concentration of the surviving species, preventing then the existence of rare species and, consequently, increasing the robustness of the ecosystem to external perturbations.  相似文献

An analytical model, which describes the drift and diffusion mechanisms for the formation of the nonlinear response (local and nonlocal nonlinearities) of photorefractive crystals on the microscopic level, is constructed. New types of stable self-consistent distributions of the light field intensity, i.e., spatial solitons, are found. The trajectories of their motion (self-bending) are calculated, and the possibility of observing a new nonlinear-optical effect in photorefractive crystals, viz., the formation of spatial shock waves, is demonstrated. The modulation instability appearing when plane waves propagate in photorefractive crystals is analyzed, and the characteristic spatial scales of the light field distribution formed as a result of self-interaction (fanning) are determined. The possibility of observing large-scale changes in the hydrology of a shallow-water waveguide, based on the data on frequency shifts of conjugate wave field maximum, is analyzed. The field focusing at the observation point is controlled by changing the radiation frequency. A particular analytical solution to the nonintegrable problem of plane electromagnetic wave propagation through an isotropic gyrotropic nonlinear medium is found in the form of elliptically polarized breather. The intensity ratio for the circularly polarized components of this wave, which remains constant during propagation, can be used to determine the ratio of local and nonlocal nonlinear susceptibilities describing the Kerr nonlinearity and its spatial dispersion.  相似文献

Background

We examined development of auditory temporal integration and inhibition by assessing electrophysiological responses to tone pairs separated by interstimulus intervals (ISIs) of 25, 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800 ms in 28 children aged 7 to 9 years, and 15 adults.

Results

In adults a distinct neural response was elicited to tones presented at ISIs of 25 ms or longer, whereas in children this was only seen in response to tones presented at ISIs above 100 ms. In adults, late N1 amplitude was larger for the second tone of the tone pair when separated by ISIs as short as 100 ms, consistent with the perceptual integration of successive stimuli within the temporal window of integration. In contrast, children showed enhanced negativity only when tone pairs were separated by ISIs of 200 ms. In children, the amplitude of the P1 component was attenuated at ISIs below 200 ms, consistent with a refractory process.

Conclusions

These results indicate that adults integrate sequential auditory information into smaller temporal segments than children. These results suggest that there are marked maturational changes from childhood to adulthood in the perceptual processes underpinning the grouping of incoming auditory sensory information, and that electrophysiological measures provide a sensitive, non-invasive method allowing further examination of these changes.  相似文献

A phenomenological model describing “magnetodipole” self-organization of charge carriers (the formation of so-called stripe-structures and the energy gap in the spectrum of states) was suggested to interpret the data of nonstationary nonlinear spectroscopy of high-T c superconductors. It was shown that, after rapidly heating a superconducting sample, the kinetics of the succeeding phase transition depended on initial temperature T. At small “overheatings” T*<T<T m x≈(1.4?1.5)T* (T c and T*≈T c are the temperatures of the transition to the superconducting state and the formation of stripe-structures) and the optimal level of doping, the decay of stripe-structures (and of the gap in the spectrum of states) occurred at a low rate (in times above to 10?9 s) in spite of the virtually instantaneous disappearance of superconductivity.  相似文献
