T1Effects in Sequential Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast Experiments

Residual effects of an initial bolus of gadolinium contrast agent have been previously demonstrated in sequential dynamic susceptibility contrast MR experiments. While these residual effects quickly reach a saturation steady state, their etiology is uncertain, and they can lead to spurious estimates of hemodynamic parameters in activation experiments. The possible influence ofT₁effects is now investigated with experiments in whichT₁weighting is varied as well as with serial regionalT₁measurements. Little evidence for significant residualT₁effects is found, suggesting instead that susceptibility effects underlie these observations. An initial saturation dose of contrast agent minimizes this effect.     

On Super Hamiltonian Semigroups

The concept of super hamiltonian semigroup is introduced. As a result, the structure theorems obtained by A. Cherubini and A. Varisco on quasi commutative semi-groups and quasi hamiltonian semigroups respectively are extended to super hamiltonian semigroups.     

A stable dual-wavelength fiber laser with tunable wavelength spacing using a polarization-maintaining linear cavity

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a stable dual-wavelength erbium-doped polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber laser with tunable wavelength spacing using an all-PM linear cavity that makes use of two reflection peaks from the PM fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG). Experimental results show stable dual lasing lines with a wavelength separation of ∼0.22 nm and a large optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of over 40 dB under room temperature. By applying axial strain to the PM-FBG, the center wavelengths of the two lasing lines can be tuned over several nanometers and the wavelength separation between the lasing lines can also be tuned to as small as 0.05 nm, which, to our knowledge, is the smallest wavelength spacing ever obtained from a stable room-temperature dual-wavelength fiber laser. The proposed laser configuration has the advantages of simple structure, low loss, stable dual-wavelength operation and a very small lasing linewidth of ∼5 kHz . Phase shift moiré studies of processing-induced residual strains in Nickel 200 spot welds

Processing-induced residual strains in solid cylinders of Nickel 200 were investigated using phase shifting moiré interferometry. Two different experimental approaches were used to study the strains produced during Tungsten-inert gas spot welding. A comparison of results for a ‘hot/fast’ and a ‘cool/slow’ weld demonstrate the capabilities of the general approach. Both experimental methods revealed distinct differences in the residual displacement and strain fields between the two types of welds.     

Developing models of decision making

Studies that focus on the decision making process can be classified in (at least) two ways: by psychological content and by contextual content. The first describes the degree to which the analysis focuses on the mental processes associated with decision making and the second deals with the degree to which the analysis is dependent upon the study's context. Several studies are examined in terms of where they fall in this two-dimensional taxonomy. Two analyses of maritime command and control conducted by the authors are examined more fully within this taxonomy. Both are context full, but are at opposite ends of the psychological content spectrum. These categorizations are useful in focusing future research aimed at developing models of decision making.     

Synthesis of high-purity α- and β-PbO and possible applications to synthesis and processing of other lead oxide materials

Litharge, the red tetragonal form of lead oxide α-PbO and massicot, the yellow orthorhombic form β-PbO, are synthesized from lead(II) salts in aqueous media at elevated temperatures. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the size, morphology, and crystallographic structural forms of the products. The role of impurities in the experimental synthesis of the materials and microstructural variations in the final products are described. The implications of these observations regarding the synthesis of different conducting lead oxides and other related materials are discussed. A New View on Fuzzy Hypermodules

We describe the relationship between the fuzzy sets and the algebraic hyperstructures. In fact, this paper is a continuation of the ideas presented by Davvaz in （Fuzzy Sets Syst., 117： 477- 484, 2001） and Bhakat and Das in （Fuzzy Sets Syst., 80： 359-368, 1996）. The concept of the quasicoincidence of a fuzzy interval value with an interval-valued fuzzy set is introduced and this is a natural generalization of the quasi-coincidence of a fuzzy point in fuzzy sets. By using this new idea, the concept of interval-valued （α,β）-fuzzy sub-hypermodules of a hypermodule is defined. This newly defined interval-valued （α,β）-fuzzy sub-hypermodule is a We shall study such fuzzy sub-hypermodules and sub-hypermodules of a hypermodule. generalization of the usual fuzzy sub-hypermodule. consider the implication-based interval-valued fuzzy     

The G/M/1 queue revisited

The G/M/1 queue is one of the classical models of queueing theory. The goal of this paper is two-fold: (a) To introduce new derivations of some well-known results, and (b) to present some new results for the G/M/1 queue and its variants. In particular, we pay attention to the G/M/1 queue with a set-up time at the start of each busy period, and the G/M/1 queue with exceptional first service. Simulation of soliton propagation in a directional coupler

Soliton propagation in a directional fiber coupler is investigated. By using Fourier series analysis technique (FSAT), the effects of radii ratio and intermodal dispersion on soliton switching have been investigated.
