Self-assembling of In(Ga)As/GaAs quantum dots on (N11) substrates: the (311)A case

We have investigated the In(Ga)As island formation, in the Stranski-Krastanov growth mode, on (311)A GaAs substrates. The surface topography of InAs and InGaAs strained epilayers was studied by contact microscopies. The different substrate affects the overgrown island shape. In(Ga)As grown on (311)A gives rise to quantum wire-like islands. Quantum dots (QDs), but with highly anisotropic shapes, are the outcomes of InAs deposition. QD samples were also characterized by photoluminescence (PL) measurements. Correlation between optical and morphological properties was observed.     

Magnetic-field-induced Fermi-edge singularity in the tunneling current through an InAs self-assembled quantum dot

The results of the investigation of tunneling transport through a GaAs/(AlGa)As/GaAs single-barrier heterostructure containing InAs self-assembled quantum dots at low temperatures are reported. An anomalous increase in the tunneling current through the quantum dots has been observed in the presence of a magnetic field both parallel and perpendicular to the current. This increase is a manifestation of a Fermi-edge singularity appearing in the current due to the interaction of a tunneling electron with the electron gas in an emitter.     

Formation of eight-membered ring β-keto lactones via the intramolecular trapping of hydroxy acylketenes

Eight-membered ring β-keto lactones were prepared from 2,2,6-trimethyl-4H-1,3-dioxin-4-one in three steps involving conjugate addition to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes or ketones, followed by conversion to an alcohol and thermolysis. The formation of these eight-membered rings involves the intramolecular trapping of a hydroxy acyl ketene intermediate and is facilitated by a suppressed ring strain and an unfavorable intramolecular hydrogen bond, which is suggested to favor the formation of oligomers. These aspects of the reaction were supported by molecular mechanics calculations.     

Substrate-based design of the first class of angiotensin-converting enzyme-related carboxypeptidase (ACE2) inhibitors

Angiotensin-converting enzyme-related carboxypeptidase (ACE2) is a recently identified zinc metalloprotease with carboxypeptidase activity that was identified using our genomics platform. We implemented a rational design approach to identify potent and selective ACE2 inhibitors. To this end, picomolar inhibitors of ACE2 were designed and synthesized.

Anisotropy of electronic wave functions in self-assembled InAs dots embedded in the center of a GaAs quantum well studied by magnetotunneling spectroscopy

We present an experimental study of electron wave functions in InAs/GaAs self-assembled quantum dots by magnetotunneling spectroscopy. The electronic wave functions have a biaxial symmetry in the growth plane, with axes corresponding to the main crystallographic directions in the growth plane. Moreover, we observed the in-plane anisotropy of the subbands of the quantum well.     

Effects of salt on the protonation in aqueous solution of triethylenetetramine and tetraethylenepentamine

Protonation constants of triethylenetetramine (trien) and tetraethylenepentamine (tetren) were determined, in NaCl aqueous solutions, at different ionic strengths, at 25°C, using the the pH-metric technique. The behavior of protonation constants as a function of ionic strength can be explained by a model which takes into account the formation of the species AH _q Cl _p [A=amine; q=1...4, p=1,2 (trien); q=1...5, p=1.3 (tetren)].
