In the study of nonlinear physical systems, one encounters apparently random or chaotic behavior, although the systems may
be completely deterministic. Applying techniques from symbolic dynamics to maps of the interval, we compute two measures of
chaotic behavior commonly employed in dynamical systems theory: the topological and metric entropies. For the quadratic logistic
equation, we find that the metric entropy converges very slowly in comparison to maps which are strictly hyperbolic. The effects
of finite precision arithmetric and external noise on chaotic behavior are characterized with the symbolic dynamics entropies.
Finally, we discuss the relationship of these measures of chaos to algorithmic complexity, and use algorithmic information
theory as a framework to discuss the construction of models for chaotic dynamics. 相似文献

Fatty acids have been investigated as boundary structures to construct artificial cells due to their dynamic properties and phase transitions. Here we have explored the possibility that fatty acid systems also demonstrate movement. An oil phase was loaded with a fatty acid anhydride precursor and introduced to an aqueous fatty acid micelle solution. The oil droplets showed autonomous, sustained movement through the aqueous media. Internal convection created a positive feedback loop, and the movement of the oil droplet was sustained as convection drove fresh precursor to the surface to become hydrolyzed. As the system progressed, more surfactant was produced and some of the oil droplets transformed into supramolecular aggregates resembling multilamellar vesicles. The oil droplets also moved directionally within chemical gradients and exhibited a type of chemotaxis. 相似文献

A largely phenomenological study of two-dimensional cellular automata is reported. Qualitative classes of behavior similar to those in one-dimensional cellular automata are found. Growth from simple seeds in two-dimensiona! cellular automata can produce patterns with complicated boundaries, characterized by a variety of growth dimensions. Evolution from disordered states can give domains with boundaries that execute effectively continuous motions. Some global properties of cellular automata can be described by entropies and Lyapunov exponents.
