Analytical expressions are obtained that describe the changes in the degree of coherence and in the thickness of the coherence layers occurring upon propagation of a dispersed broadband laser beam. It is found that the greater the tilting of the coherence layers with respect to the phase fronts, the more rapidly the spatial coherence is violated with increasing distance. A comparison with the case of an undispersed beam is performed. It is shown that, as the beam propagates, the decrease in the degree of coherence is accompanied by the appearance of spatial fluctuations of this parameter. The degree of mutual coherence of intersecting dispersed beams with parallel correlated coherence layers, which determines the efficiency of their coherent interaction, is investigated. The renormalization structure of two-dimensional quantum gravity is investigated in a covariant gauge. One-loop divergences of the effective action are calculated. All the surface divergent terms are taken into account thus completing previous one-loop calculations of the theory. It is shown that the on-shell effective action contains only surface divergences. String theory at nonzero temperature is reviewed. A bosonic string at nonzero temperature is studied and the calculation of its free energy in both the one-loop approximation and the case of arbitrary genus (multiloop analysis) is discussed. A string at nonzero temperature is compared with a string compacted on a one-dimensional torus. The properties of modular invariance and dual symmetry are discussed at both the one-loop and multiloop levels. The thermodynamics of superstrings, including also superstrings compactified on a torus, is also studied. Possible cosmological applications are briefly considered. Covariant quantization is considered for a (1+1)-dimensional four-fermion model interacting with general-form dilation gravitation: the coefficients to all the terms are arbitrary functions of the dilaton field. In particular, detailed studies have been made of the Majorana case, the Gross-Neveu model, and extension of it containing an axial-scalar current term.
