Summary On-line coupled HPLC-GC has been used for the fractionation and analysis of polychlorobiphenyls (PCB) according to their planarity.
HPLC elution with porous graphitic carbon (PGC) as stationary phase, enables fractionation of PCB into classes according to
the amount ofortho-substitution, which is related to congener toxicity. This is a preliminary step before GC analysis, which enables complete
separation of PCB congeners according to vapour pressure. Conditions for HPLC-HRGC coupling were optimised, in particular
the appropriate proper HPLC solvent was selected, because it determines eluent strength and selectivity and the transfer conditions.
Different solvent were studied—n-hexane, dichloromethane, benzene, toluene, and their mixtures.
Samples containing PCB standards and the commercial mixtures Aroclor 1242 and 1254 were analysed. Dichloromethane-n-hexane, 1:1, was selected as mobile phase for separation of poly-ortho from mono-ortho PCB; benzene-dichloromethane 30:70 resulted in the best separation of the most retained non-ortho-substituted PCB. Under these conditions the co-solvent trapping procedure, performed by adding 4% ethylbenzene as co-solvent,
was used as transfer technique to overcome the drawback of losses of volatile congeners.
Appropriate analysis conditions were successfully used to fractionate the technical PCB formulations Aroclor 1242 and 1254. 相似文献

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is an infection that arises after endotracheal intubation affecting patients under intensive care. The presence of the endotracheal tube (ETT) is a risk factor since it is colonized by multispecies biofilm. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) could be a strategy to decontaminate ETTs. We verify if methylene blue (MB) associated with external illumination of the ETT could be an alternative to destroy biofilm. We performed an in vitro and ex vivo study. In vitro study was performed with P. aeruginosa biofilm grew over ETT for 7 days. After treatment, the surviving cells were cultured for 3 days and the biofilm was analyzed by crystal violet absorbance. Ex vivo study employed ETT obtained from extubated patients. aPDT was performed with MB (100 µm ) and red LED (λ = 640±20 nm). We quantified the biofilm thickness and used scanning electron microscopy and fluorescence technique to verify morphological and functional changes after aPDT. Our results showed that bacteria remain susceptible to aPDT after sequential treatments. We also attested that aPDT can reduce biofilm thickness, disrupt biofilm attachment from ETT surface and kill microbial cells. An estimation of the length of any magnetic field line in a two-dimensional periodic magnetohydrodynamic problem is provided. This is done by using some classical function theory results on the analytic extension of the vector potential. The essential parameter, the maximum of this extension, may be analyzed in the case of turbulent plasmas by admitting the Iroshnikov-Kraichnan statistics, establishing in this way a relation between the length of any magnetic field line and the energy dissipation scale. A new, vectorial approach to fast correlation attacks on binary memoryless combiners is proposed. Instead of individual input sequences or their linear combinations, the new attack is targeting subsets of input sequences as a whole thus exploiting the full correlation between the chosen subset and the output sequence. In particular, the set of all the input sequences can be chosen as the target. The attack is based on a novel iterative probabilistic algorithm which is also applicable to general memoryless combiners over finite fields or finite rings.
