Measurement of γp→K + Λ and γp→K + Σ 0 at photon energies up to 1.47 GeV

The reactions pK ⁺ and pK ^{+ 0} have been measured with the multiparticle detector system SAPHIR at ELSA in Bonn. Besides the differential cross sections the polarization and, for the first time, the ⁰ polarization have been determined in a photon induced reaction. All data are presented as functions of the photon energy (from threshold up to 1.47 GeV) and of the kaon production angle (0°–180°). The polarization of both and ⁰ is substantial at all energies and varies strongly with the production angle.This work is supported by the Bundesminister für Forschung und Technologie (BMFT), FK 06 BN 621 I     

Quasi-harmonic approximation of thermodynamic properties of ice Ih, II, and III

Several thermodynamic properties of ice Ih, II, and III are studied by a quasi-harmonic approximation and compared to results of quantum path integral and classical simulations. This approximation allows to obtain thermodynamic information at a fraction of the computational cost of standard simulation methods, and at the same time permits studying quantum effects related to zero-point vibrations of the atoms. Specifically, we have studied the crystal volume, bulk modulus, kinetic energy, enthalpy, and heat capacity of the three ice phases as a function of temperature and pressure. The flexible q-TIP4P/F model of water was employed for this study, although the results concerning the capability of the quasi-harmonic approximation are expected to be valid independently of the employed water model. The quasi-harmonic approximation reproduces with reasonable accuracy the results of quantum and classical simulations showing an improved agreement at low temperatures (T< 100 K). This agreement does not deteriorate as a function of pressure as long as it is not too close to the limit of mechanical stability of the ice phases.     

Low-energy photoproduction of \omega-mesons

The photoproduction of the vector meson has been studied between threshold and W = 2.4 GeV with the SAPHIR detector at the Bonn electron stretcher ring ELSA. Low-energy photoproduction of Φ-mesons

Photoproduction of Φ-vector-mesons has been studied from reaction threshold up to W = 2.4 GeV with the SAPHIR spectrometer at the Bonn electron stretcher ring ELSA. Total cross-sections, differential cross-sections and decay angular distributions were measured. We find evidence for strong non-diffractive contributions to Φ photoproduction. Decompositions of Ideals of Minors Meeting a Submatrix

We compute the primary decomposition of certain ideals generated by subsets of minors in a generic matrix or in a generic symmetric matrix, or subsets of Pfaffians in a generic skew-symmetric matrix. Specifically, the ideals we consider are generated by minors that have at least some given number of rows and columns in certain submatrices.
