Transient electromagnetic radiation induced by an electron beam at the exit of a linear accelerator

The parameters of radio radiation generated in an air medium by an electron beam from a RELUS-1 small electron accelerator (Radiation Acceleration Center, MIFI) were studied theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical models for the generation of electromagnetic fields over the frequency range 10–3000 MHz induced by an electron beam were developed and studied. Electromagnetic fields from a beam of electrons were recorded over the frequency ranges 140–160 and 2794–2804. The discrepancy between theoretical estimates and recorded values was less than 50%.     

Specific features of microparticle deformation upon impact on a rigid barrier

Based on experimental data and numerical modeling, it is shown that a lamina of melted metal of thickness of order0.01 d, in which the temperature is close to the melting point of the particle material, can be formed upon high-speed impact (v ₀≈500–1200 m/sec) of a fine metal particle (d=1–50 μm) on a rigid undeformable barrier near the contact surface. Space Videophotometric System for Recording Optical Radiations in the Earth Atmosphere

This paper describes the VFS-3M videophotometric system designed for automatic remote recording of images and parameters of optical radiations following lightning discharges from aboard the Russian segment of the International space station. The characteristics of the system and the possibilities of recording such types of radiation as Red Sprites and Blue Jets are given.     

Dynamics of charged particles in the field of a spherical magnetic dipole

The results of numerical simulation of the dynamics of charged particles in the field of a spherical magnetic dipole are reported. Interesting features revealed in this dynamics can be used in analysis of near-Earth space with the help of charged particle beams.
