Electrochemical formation of cation-exchanging polypyrrole films within various hydrophilic–hydrophobic domains

The electrochemical polymerization technique has been successfully applied to produce conducting polymer film of controlled ion exchange properties. Polypyrrole films were prepared by electro-oxidative polymerization with doping some alkylsulfonates or Nafion. The ion exchange characteristics across polypyrrole films were examined by means of a novel electrochemical technique, namely, the in situ electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) method. According to EQCM measurements, exchanging ion species was found to be successfully controlled by changing the hydrophilic–hydrophobic balance of the incorporated sulfonated-based dopants. The film's characteristics became anion- to cation-exchanging as the dopants became more hydrophobic in nature. The polypyrrole–Nafion(poly(perfluoroethylene sulfonate)) composite film became to be a complete cation exchanger.     

Switchable rewritability of Ag-TiO2 nanocomposite films with multicolor photochromism

The photochromism and rewritability of Ag-TiO2 films were deactivated by modification with thiols to make it possible to retain color images displayed on the films (for more than 3 days under white fluorescent lamps), while the deactivated properties were fully reactivated by UV-irradiation.

Graded Limits of Minimal Affinizations over the Quantum Loop Algebra of Type <Emphasis Type="Italic">G</Emphasis><Subscript>2</Subscript>

The aim of this paper is to study the graded limits of minimal affinizations over the quantum loop algebra of type G ₂. We show that the graded limits are isomorphic to multiple generalizations of Demazure modules, and obtain defining relations of them. As an application, we obtain a polyhedral multiplicity formula for the decomposition of minimal affinizations of type G ₂ as a \(U_{q}(\mathfrak {g})\)-module, by showing the corresponding formula for the graded limits. As another application, we prove a character formula of the least affinizations of generic parabolic Verma modules of type G ₂ conjectured by Mukhin and Young.     

Endogenous synthesis of N-methylsalsolinol, an analogue of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine, in rat brain during in vivo microdialysis with salsolinol, as demonstrated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

N-Methylsalsolinol, an analogue of 1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine, is present in the brains of patients with Parkinson's disease. To determine the metabolic pathway for the synthesis of N-Methylsalsolinol in the brain, salsolinol was perfused through the striatum or the substantia nigra of the rat brain by in vivo microdialysis. N-Methylsalsolinol was detected in the brain dialysate samples during microdialysis with salsolinol using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with selected-ion monitoring. These results demonstrate that endogenous N-methylation of salsolinol into N-methylsalsolinol occurs in the brain in vivo.     

Growth of InAs on GaAs(1 0 0) by low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition employing in situ generated arsine radicals

InAs was grown by low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition on vicinal GaAs(1 0 0) substrates misoriented by 2° toward [0 0 1]. We observed InAs crystal growth, at substrate temperatures down to 300°C, employing in situ plasma-generated arsine radicals as the arsenic source. The in situ generated arsine was produced by placing solid arsenic downstream of a microwave driven hydrogen plasma. Trimethylindium (TMIn) feedstock carried by hydrogen gas was used as the indium source. The Arrhenius plot of InAs growth rate vs. reciprocal substrate temperature displayed an activation energy of 46.1 kcal/mol in the temperature range of 300–350°C. This measured activation energy value is very close to the energy necessary to remove the first methyl radical from the TMIn molecule, which has never been reported in prior InAs growth to the best of authors’ knowledge. The film growth mechanism is discussed. The crystallinity, infrared spectrum, electrical properties and impurity levels of grown InAs are also presented.     

Halogen Selectivity in Nickel Salt-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling of Aryl Grignard Reagents with Bromochlorobenzenes a Novel Synthetic Method of Unsymmetrical Terphenyl

The reactions of aryl Grignard reagents with p- and m-bromochlorobenzenes catalyzed by non-ligated NiCl₂ give selectively chlorobiphenyl derivatives. By the stepwise reaction, an unsymmetrical terphenyl was synthesized in a good yield.     

Locust Bean Gum Hydrogels Formed by Freezing and Thawing

Locust bean gum (LBG) hydrogels were prepared by freezing and thawing. It was found that the junction zone of LBG hydrogels is tightly formed by repeating freezing and thawing. During this process, LBG molecules not connected with the junction zone are excluded from the gel portion and the remaining molecules gradually form densely packed hydrogels. Molecular conformation in the sol state affects the rate of the junction formation. Obtained LBG hydrogels are thermally stable and no gel-sol transition was observed in temperatures from 40 to 100 °C by the observation of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Non-freezing water content calculated from the DSC melting peak of water in the gel indicates that the junction zone became dense with increasing freezing and thawing.
