An experimental and theoretical investigation of the nonlinear transmission coefficient of ytterbium-holmium codoped silica fiber (YHF) at continuous-wave 978-nm pumping is reported. An analysis of the fiber absorption and luminescence spectra under 978-nm pumping reveals a variety of processes participating in the mixed (Yb3+, Ho3+) system: the energy transfer Yb3+ → Ho3+, the up-conversion and excited-state absorption in Ho3+, and the luminescence quenching due to the presence of Yb3+-Yb3+ ion pairs. These processes are shown to notably affect the transmission coefficient of YHF, which is reflected in a pronounced modification of its dependences on pump power, fiber length, and dopant concentrations, in comparison with the case of purely ytterbium-doped fiber (YF). A modeling of the experimentally measured dependences of the YHF transmission coefficient on pump power and fiber length allows us to obtain the coefficients addressing the energy transfer process Yb3+ → Ho3+ in YHF. A comparison of YHF and YF at the same pumping conditions reveals that, in YHF, a considerable part of the pump power absorbed in the Yb3+ subsystem is transferred into the Ho3+ subsystem; this results in an effective population of its 5 I 7 state and makes YHF promising for 2-μm lasing and amplifying. 相似文献

Modal birefringence and stress distribution measurements in a single-mode double-clad Nd+3-doped fiber are reported. The contribution of different mechanisms, such as stress-induced birefringence, bending and core ellipticity, to the total birefringence is determined for a fiber wound onto a drum. A stress distribution pattern in the cross-section of the fiber is presented. The stresses are shown to be applied to a fiber core along the cladding minor axis. 相似文献

We investigated the influence exerted by the radius of the bend of fiber light guides with light-transmitting cores of different
diameters on the transformation of the spectrum of longitudinal modes of the semiconductor laser radiation introduced into
them. It is shown that the bended segment of the light guide acts as a spectrum selector, and the spectral composition of
the radiation at the output of a light guide is different in different spots of the speckle structure.

The characteristics of leaky modes in microstructured fibers with finite-thickness absorbing coatings are studied theoretically
and experimentally. It is shown that, if the thickness of the coating is constant, the fiber has a quasi-periodic transmission
spectrum. The period and depth of modulation of the spectrum are determined by resonance coupling between the modes of the
fiber and coating. Since the constants of mode propagation in the coating are very sensitive to environmental parameters,
the discovered effect seems to be promising for sensor applications. 相似文献

The lasingin an Nd:YAG laser with a fiber-optic reflector in the form of a loop was experimentally investigated. Two designs
of the laser with a fiber-optic loop reflector were considered. In the laser of the first type the reflector was formed by
a fragment of a fiber guide the ends of which were placed in the focal plane of a microscope objective. In the laser of the
second type the role of the output mirror was played by a loop-shaped fiber-optic reflector made on the basis of a V-shaped
fused three-fiber splitter. It is shown that when such lasers operate in the regime of free-running lasing, in them there
takes place the effect of nonlinear conversion of the generated radiation frequency in the Stokes and anti-Stokes regions
of the spectrum.

The first two α‐sila‐dipeptides, 7 and cyclo‐sila‐dipeptide 8 , were synthesized and characterized by several methods, including X‐ray crystallography. Bulky t‐BuMe2Si substituents provide some kinetic stabilization to the synthesized molecules. 7 and 8 are the first examples of a “Si for C switch” in the central α‐position of an amino acid or a peptide, in which silicon is bonded to both the amino and the carbonyl groups. 相似文献

We report on a nondestructive and noninterferometric technique for the experimental investigation of an approximation for the averaged index profile of quasi-axially symmetric large-mode-area microstructured optical fibers (MOFs). MOFs with a solid silica core surrounded by cladding, which consists of a system of air channels in silica, running along the fiber in a hexagonal structure around the core were analyzed. We used the transversal gradient of the phase, which was obtained from microscopic bright-field images of the studied quasi-axially symmetric MOFs. The inverse Abel transform was then applied to receive the approximation of the averaged index profile of the tested MOFs. The results of our investigations are presented. 相似文献
