We report the development of corrugated "slow-wave" plasma guiding structures with application to quasiphase-matched direct laser acceleration of charged particles and generation of a wide spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. These structures support guided propagation at intensities up to 2 x 10(17) W/cm(2), limited by our current laser energy and side leakage. Hydrogen and argon plasma waveguides up to 1.5 cm in length with corrugation period as short as 35 microm are generated in a cryogenic cluster jet. Experimental data are consistent with simulations showing periodic modulations of the laser pulse intensity.  相似文献

The superluminal group velocity of an ultrashort optical Bessel beam pulse is measured over its entire depth of field, corresponding to approximately 2x10(4) optical wavelengths. The method used is to measure the traveling ionization front induced by the pulse.  相似文献

The Feynman path integral Monte Carlo approach has been coupled to the gauge including atomic orbital formalism in order to analyse the absolute magnetic shieldings of the benzene nuclei under the conditions of thermal equilibrium. The Hamiltonian employed in the derivation of ensemble averaged NMR quantities is of the Hartree-Fock type. The basis set used is of 6–31G quality. The spatial delocalization of the atoms leads to a deshielding of both types of benzene nuclei relative to the shieldings experienced at the minimum of the potential energy surface. This deshielding has to be traced back to bond length elongations in thermal equilibrium. The influence of the nuclear fluctuations on the NMR parameters of benzene is quantum driven up to temperatures of 400 K; classical fluctuations are of minor importance in this low-temperature window.  相似文献

The interaction of high intensity 100-ps laser pulses with micron-sized noble gas (argon and krypton) droplets is experimentally investigated via a series of pump–probe experiments monitoring the delay-dependent X-ray and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission, and by imaging frequency-doubled probe light scattered from the interaction region. An understanding of the time scales for this interaction is important for optimization of EUV sources for next-generation lithography that utilizes laser-produced plasmas (LPP). Depending on the spectral region of interest, the type of emission, and the droplet characteristics, the effective emission lifetime was found to extend from a few hundred picoseconds to as long as several nanoseconds, in agreement with the expected plasma expansion, EUV excitation, and recombination emission time scales. We demonstrate intense pulse guiding in efficient femtosecond end-pumped waveguides generated in clustered gases. This novel scheme provides a route to significantly lower on-axis plasma density (< 10(18) cm(-3)) more than is feasible in conventional hydrodynamic plasma waveguides. Self-focused propagation and strong absorption of intense femtosecond laser pulses are used to produce long centimeter scale channels in an argon cluster jet, and a subsequent pulse is guided with 3 x 10(17) W cm(-2) intensity and approximately 50% coupling efficiency. Preliminary results with hydrogen clusters also show guiding.  相似文献
