Synthesis and Photochemistry of Novel 3,5-Diacetyl-1,4-dihydropyridines. II [1]

In continuation of previous work some novel 3,5-diacetyl-1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives were synthesized and their photochemical behavior was studied under oxygen and argon atmosphere. Oxidation of the dihydropyridine ring and formation of pyridine derivatives was the result of the reaction. The presence of oxygen affects not only on the rate of oxidation, but also the formation of some unidentified by-products was observed on irradiation under this atmosphere.     

Solvent effects on oxygen atom transfer reaction between manganese(V)-oxo corrole and alkene

Pseudo-first order reaction rate constants of 5,10,15-tris（pentafluorophenyl）corrole Mn（V）-oxo (F₁₅CMn（V）-oxo),5,15-bis（pentafluorophenyl）-10-（phenyl）corrole Mn（V）-oxo(F₁₀CMn（V）-oxo),5,15- bis（phenyl）-10-（pentafluorophenyl）corrole Mn（V）-oxo（F₅CMn（V）-oxo） and 5,10,15-tris（phenyl）corrole Mn（V）-oxo（F₀CMn（V）-oxo） with a series of alkene substrates in different solvents were determined by UV-vis spectroscopy.The results indicated that the oxygen atom transfer pathway between Mn（V）-oxo corrole and alkene is solvent-dependent.     

Oxidation of 1,4-Dihydropyridines under Mild and Heterogeneous Conditions

A combination of NaHSO₄.H₂O and NaNO₂ in the presence of wet SiO₂ was used as an effective oxidizing agent for the oxidation of dihydropyridines to their corresponding pyridine derivatives at room temperature with excellent yields.     

Light-induced dehydrogenation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones

Abstract  

UV light irradiation of Biginelli 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones in chloroform in an argon atmosphere leads to dehydrogenation of these compounds to their corresponding pyrimidin-2(1H)-ones in excellent yields. Irradiation in the same solvent under an oxygen atmosphere generates, in addition, various hitherto unidentified products. A light-induced electron transfer from the substrate to the solvent is proposed as the initial event, supported by the detection of dichloromethane and hydrogen chloride in the photolysate.     

Photo-oxidation of 5-acetyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones

A variety of Biginelli 5-acetyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones are efficiently oxidized to their corresponding pyrimidin-2(1H)-one derivatives upon UV irradiation under argon atmosphere in chloroform solution. The nature of the additional substituent on the phenyl ring located on C-4 of the heterocyclic ring influences the rate of reaction. An electron-transfer induced photoreaction is proposed based on the formation of HCl and CH₂Cl₂.     

β-Octafluorinated tetrakis(ethoxycarbonyl)porphyrin

Tetrakis(alloxycarbonyl)porphyrin and its β-octafluoro-substituted derivatives were synthesized via Lindsey method and transformed to their zinc complexes.Single crystal X-ray structures of corresponding Zn(Ⅱ) porphyrins revealed that β-octafluorination will give more compactness of porphyrin moieties in the crystal structure owing to the hydrogen bonding interactions involving β-fluorine atoms.An unusual six-coordinated Zn(Ⅱ) was found via intramolecular coordination of oxygen atom of meso-substituents with central Zn(Ⅱ).     

Synthesis and Photochemistry of Novel 3,5-Diacetyl-1,4-dihydropyridines

 Some novel 3,5-diacetyl-1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives were synthesized; their photochemical behaviour was studied under oxygen or argon atmosphere. Irradiation of these compounds resulted in the aromatization of the ring and formation of 3,5-diacetylpyridine derivatives. The presence of oxygen plays an important role in the type, rate, or failure of oxidation. Irradiation of these compounds with of 2-furyl or 5-methyl-2-furyl substituents in position 4 under argon resulted in the formation of a pyridine ring with retention of these substituents, whereas loss of these substituents and ring aromatization was observed upon irradiation under oxygen.
