Lectins are a structurally heterogeneous group of proteins or glycoproteins with at least one noncatalytic domain binding reversibly to a specific mono- or oligosaccharide. Monocot mannose-binding lectins are an extended superfamily of structurally and evolutionarily related proteins. In this study, we evaluated anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects of monocot lectin from the Canna limbata seeds (CLL). To accomplish this, CLL was purified and subjected to pharmacological assays: abdominal writhing induced by acetic acid, formalin, hot plate and Zymosan A-induced peritonitis tests. The CLL was purified by chromatographic chitin column, and the relative mass of 21 kDa observed in electrophoresis was confirmed by electrospray mass spectrometry, which also revealed that purified CLL consists of a dimer having a weight of 49,676 Da. The CLL showed nociceptive activity in the acetic acid test as well as peripheral antinociceptive response. The CLL also showed anti-inflammatory effect with the reduction of inflammation in the formalin test and neutrophil migration into the peritoneal cavity. This is the first report of anti-inflammatory activity for a monocot lectin, and it suggests a new pharmacological tool to understand inflammatory and antinociceptive processes mediated through lectins.  相似文献

The tetraoxido ruthenium(VIII) radical cation, [RuO4]+, should be a strong oxidizing agent, but has been difficult to produce and investigate so far. In our X-ray absorption spectroscopy study, in combination with quantum-chemical calculations, we show that [RuO4]+, produced via oxidation of ruthenium cations by ozone in the gas phase, forms the oxygen-centered radical ground state. The oxygen-centered radical character of [RuO4]+ is identified by the chemical shift at the ruthenium M3 edge, indicative of ruthenium(VIII), and by the presence of a characteristic low-energy transition at the oxygen K edge, involving an oxygen-centered singly-occupied molecular orbital, which is suppressed when the oxygen-centered radical is quenched by hydrogenation of [RuO4]+ to the closed-shell [RuO4H]+ ion. Hydrogen-atom abstraction from methane is calculated to be only slightly less exothermic for [RuO4]+ than for [OsO4]+.  相似文献

Chlorine dioxide is one of the most interesting oxidants because it combines a strong capacity of oxidation with low formation of hazardous byproducts such as chlorinated organics during its application. Because of that, it is widely used in disinfection of drinking water and, currently, it is aimed to be used in the disinfection of surfaces or buildings. Although it is usually produced by the chemical interaction of chlorite with hypochlorite/chlorine or hydrochloric acid, one interesting alternative for its production is the combination in strongly acidic media of chlorate and hydrogen peroxide. Both compounds are known to be efficiently manufactured with electrochemical technology, opening the possibility of a complete electrochemical process to produce this important oxidant. This review summarizes the recent progress in the electrochemical production of the two raw materials, as well as the complete electrochemical production of chlorine dioxide, not only paying attention to the scientific literature but, most importantly, to recent patents, trying to see in which technology readiness level are each of the technologies and what are the elements of the value chain required for a complete implementation of the technology.  相似文献

In this paper, it was suggested the use of green corn husk, which is a biomass from agro-industry, as an alternative source of energy through its pyrolysis. Green corn husk characterization was done through immediate and elemental analysis of its components: cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin. It was also measured its higher calorific value. The pyrolysis study of green corn husk was done by the isoconversion and the Master plots method. Thermogravimetric plots were obtained at heating rates of 5, 10, 15, and 20 °C min?1. The pyrolysis kinetics parameters were studied through the Flynn–Wall–Ozawa (FWO), Kissinger, and Friedman models. The Master plots method was used to determine the pyrolysis reaction order. The results of the reaction energy activation were found to be in the range 105.21–157.46 kJ mol?1 by the FWO method, 150.50 kJ mol?1 by the Kissinger method, and ranged 120.66–163.81 kJ mol?1 by the Friedman method. The Master plots method showed a three-way-transport diffusional kinetics for the biomass de-volatilization process. The higher calorific value found for green corn husk was 16.14 MJ kg?1. The simulation showed correlation between the experimental data and the proposed model for conversion values up to 0.8.

Organic dyes derived from phthaleins have a large number of industrial applications and can be synthesized using a Lewis acid by Friedel–Crafts acylation, followed by an addition reaction to the carbonyl compound. This work aims to investigate the use of NbCl5 as a catalyst for the acylation reaction. The behavior of the phthalein derivatives in several solvents and when subjected to different pH conditions was studied. These compounds showed a color‐changing effect depending on the pH and solvent, making them useful for applications as indicators. The phthaleins change their conformations depending on the condition of the medium. Photophysical studies of these compounds were carried out through their UV–Vis absorption spectra. Here, we show the umbrella‐like conformation change of phthalein derivatives that depend on the solvent and the pH of the medium.  相似文献

A novel mannose/glucose-binding lectin from Canavalia virosa (designated as ConV) has been purified from seeds of C. virosa by affinity chromatography on a mannose-Sepharose 4B column. ConV strongly agglutinates rabbit erythrocytes and was inhibited by monosaccharides (D-mannose, D-glucose, and α-methyl-D-mannoside) and glycoproteins (ovalbumin and fetuin). SDS-PAGE revealed three bands corresponding to three subunits (α, β, and γ) confirmed by ESI mass spectrometry with exact mass of 25,480?±?2 Da, 12,864?±?1 Da, and 12,633?±?1 Da, respectively. The purified lectin was more stable in pH ranging from 7.0 to 9.0, supported up to 80?ºC without any loss in activity and unaffected by EDTA. ConV showed no toxicity against Artemia sp. nauplii and relaxed endothelized rat aorta, with the participation of the lectin domain. In our tests, the lectin immobilized on CNBr-Sepharose was capable of binding 0.8 mg of ovalbumin per chromatography, allowing the use of ConV as a tool for capture and purification of glycoproteins.  相似文献
